Why does anyone think he can become a rusher? He may surprise blitz at the right time and get a sack, but he can never take on a tackle as a rusher. Some receivers block him without issue. He would be terrible as a OLB or DE.

He shouldn't be in this league. I don't care about his good story when he hurts the D as much as he does.

Tremendous post.

To answer the question....I think they have to try to do something with him because what's been happening isnt working.

Just after position change comes the door.

Pretty sure since Jerry had to annoy Elliott with this contract last summer itll be another season of ice capades before he is gone.

....this is more surprising than I thought. Jaylon just doesn't trust his first instincts to heed the play. The hesitation is deadly in football. If your one step behind, your already out of the play.

..this is where a good D coach can spot it and TRY to fix it. Are there any around?

We waited so long for the nerve to regenerate. We waited so long for Randy Gregory to play again. Maybe we should just start drafting more Trevon Diggs in the second round.
Just a reminder, we are still waiting on Randy Gregory. He won't be playing until at least October.

A Look at why Jaylon Smith still playing out of position.

Play 1:
Not a 3-4.
The "slow down" is a good thing. It is too avoid over-running plays that he was doing last year.

Play 2: LVE filled the gap regardless of how it looked. The OL should have been called for a block in the back.

Play 3: Can't blame Jaylon on that one. There are 3 blockers vs Jaylon. If he jump in front of those blockers it's likely a TD run down the sideline.

Play 4: OK.

Play 5: BS. LVE has to square up. If he runs up without getting in balance, it's going to be a TD.

The clueless buffoonery goes on and on...

Guys, listen to X....afterall he did speak to Cam Erving’s supposed ability by pointing out “he started at tackle for the Super Bowl champions.”

Of course, that was right before our coaching staff thought so highly of Erving they chose to start some guy named Terrance Steele in front of him.

That or Jerrys just is in the wrong business, just needs to open a rehabilitation facility.

Jaylon was a pretty good blitzer a couple of years ago while he was a pretty good LB too. But blitzing depends on the element of surprise, the uncertainty on whether you rush or not. He's a liability in coverage. Simply as a rusher, he's not that good. With teams *hoping* that he gets coverage responsibilities, we're better off rushing any of our DEs as a stand up rusher.

Jaylon is still good enough to be in this league. But anyone watching him week after week knows that his Pro Bowl selection was just a joke. An exercise in successful marketing.

We played soft. No aggression. No fight. On our heels for most of the game— 3 steps too slow in reacting.

In short— we sucked and won’t win many games unless this D grows a spine and a desire to punch the other team in the teeth.

That said— as bad as our D looked— our offense (other than Zeke)— looked timid and underwhelming. Hopefully the whole team looks in the mirror and grows some professional pride and comes out swinging tomorrow
This team has already taken on the persona of our coaching staff - unprepared and uncommitted.

Ouch.

I will give them the benefit of the doubt. Will see how they are trending at the halfway point before making a critique. They may surprise today and have a nice bounce back performance

I’m not expecting a single win. 99% done with this loser losing franchise.

Yeah, this is the sister season to Jimmy J’s 1-15 fiasco.

I don’t see that happening... How they play today will tell us a lot about the team’s mentality and grit. Not an easy game today by any stretch— but winnable if we get solid production from our key players

Maybe you should check some facts.

Erving had an illness and missed the majority of training camp.

you guys can argue and debate until you are all blue in the face, the only ones that know if JS is actually playing well, bad, needs a different positions are the COACHES.. you can let your mind run wild on what toy think you saw on the field but the coaches know where players are supposed to be who they were supposed to tackle or cover etc etc they break down video by Play every play broke down from every angle and reviewed, give all the LBs around JS have pretty much disappeared and ist all been musical chairs with bodies and last year the DL was horrible, very hard to know whos to blame on particular play..

Kind of like that Ramsey play jarring the ball loose from AC that wasn't even his man, great play but the DB who had ac was beat and that play works but no one will ever rally go look and judge because the play just was AC getting hit and drop the ball..

whomever was supposed to cover AC was beat and ramsey stopped came off his man and made a play. Guarantee the coaches go back and in the DB room show the player who didnt make the play how bad his coverage was.. stuff happens and sometimes players try to do to much or go and roam and try and make up for others poor play around them and that not great thing, typically doesnt work..

Im going to trust this new staff to figure out where JS should play and if hes worthy of still starting..they arent playing favorites, new staff will do all they can to get the best players in te best positions..

The poor planning and lack of execution on both sides of the ball was horrifying. MM should still be in his bunker and in retirement.

False.

They just needed to be a little bit better.

Fans love to make extreme statements.
