One of the idiot announcers declared that it was a good onside kick. That was a terrible kick.

I think they were surprised that the ball went ten yards. I think they were waiting for it to die rather than risk touching it early and making it live. I thought it was a great twist on the onside kick.

It was a crazy kick, and I didn't think it had a chance of making it 10 yards, but how does nobody from ATL jump on it when it starts getting close? It was such a freak play, and I loved it!
That's what I thought happened. The Falcons didn't think it would go 5 yards, so they just left it alone rather than muff it with the spin it had. They should've jumped on it once it got 8 or 9 yards, but I guess they were playing too safe.

You had to go for 2 at some point. This way, we knew we had to get an onside kick. Just don't believe it was a bad decision at all.
Agreed. Had they waited until the 2nd TD to go for 2, they probably would've played for OT. This way, they knew they had to get a 2nd TD quickly to try the onside kick.

Zuerlein deserves a game ball for his perfect onsides kick and game-winning FG.

How did nobody on the Falcon hands team not know they could touch the ball????

Wow. Thanks!

In general on an onside kick there are 3-4 guys on each side whose job is the create a wall so that the “hands” guys behind them can recover the kick. Those guys are told not to touch the ball. Remember Brandon Bostick from the Packers? He was one of the wall guys, tried to recover an onside kick in the playoffs against Seattle and muffed it, allowing Seattle to recover the ball and go onto win. Bostick was cut a few days later. I’m guessing that the Atlanta guys who didn’t touch the ball were wall guys.

When you watch the highlight, it initially wasn't a good onside kick. But then the ball miraculously took a ridiculous late bounce and then basically became legal.

When a fool me once situation happens, you only hope that you end up on the side that it works out for. It's kinda nice to be on the other side of a quirky outcome for once. Everyone in the NFL is gonna see this tape and make an adjustment so we were lucky that there was even a little bit of doubt on what to do in that situation. We won't get that luxury next time.

Falcon players were backing away as the ball was scooting along the turf as if they had a wait for it to go 10 yards before they could pounce on it. We may need a few more miracles this season if we’re going to make the playoffs with this defense.

The problem is if you grab that ball before 10 yards and don’t corral it, it’s a live ball.
A lot of people are leaving that out. It didn't look like it would go 10 yards so the Falcons were afraid to touch it and make it possible for the Cowboys to recover.

That was almost unbelievable. However, our special teams are nothing special...

However if you allow the ball to go 10 yards you give the kicking team an opportunity to recover it and that’s what happened. The ball was helicoptering across the ground and could have easily been recovered by the Falcons well before it went 10 yards. It’s obvious they thought they had to allow the ball to go 10 yards first. The kicking team has to allow the ball to go 10 yards before it can be recovered not the receiving team.

Idk, but I think the special teams coach should be fired for that play alone lol

IDK, these guys have been playing football for anywhere between 4-15 years . If they don’t know the rules by now, they probably shouldn’t be playing .
