What do I expect? A heartbreaking loss after that thrilling win yesterday. That's how we roll.

With the NFC East as awful as it is I can see us making the playoffs. Perhaps we will get some depth back, find a groove, and make some noise. As poor as the defense has been it feels like Nolan is better at making adjustments than his predecessors. We only gave up 10 points in the second half today. The defense performed well in the second half last week too. That gives me some hope that he can work with what he has.

I’m concerned though that we don’t make finding a quality backup tackle more of a priority. Smith misses a few games a year. I’d like to see us draft a tackle in the 3rd or 4th round next year.
I'm not sure 3rd or 4th round is going to cut it. Although, we are starting a undrafted free agent rookie at right tackle right now, so maybe this new regime will be better at finding offensive linemen, not in the 1st round. I just hope they don't ever draft another Chaz Green. We don't seem to draft that well for olinemen in the later rounds.

The coded language needs to start being called out by the mods.

I’m not sure what he is talking about, but how does one get in trouble for speaking about something of which they do not speak? (“The Village” reference).

I think we WILL make the playoffs. We should win the NFCE.

I’m not sure how this season will turn out, but we deserve to win a game we should have lost rather than letting a lead slip away and lose a game. We were due for a reversal of fortunes.

MM made some gutsy calls, some questionable calls and maybe some ill advised calls, but I think he is a bit rusty too after a lay-off. The good part about his aggressive nature is that can rub off on the players and instill confidence. I still think he is an improvement over Garrett and co.

The defense has sucked. I think some of it is not knowing the players. I think we will see the defense improve to around middle of the pack.

The OL was satisfactory today, even with the top 3 OT out. When they come back, we should expect better line play. I expect Williams to get moved to a different position or benched.

The DL is problematic. I think we have enough talent at DE. We do not have enough quality at DT. It sure would be nice to trade for a stud DT on an expiring contract for a late round pick.

I expect us to win the NFCE going away. The Giants should be “done”. The Skins can’t generate any offense. The Eagles—well they are all over the map —so they could turn it around.

This win today, whether earned or not, can be a huge confidence builder for this team. I think you will see the defense play MUCH better rushing the passer and maybe go to a full 3-4 front when Gregory returns. Gregory and Smith can be monsters at OLB.

There MUST be a plan for Crawford, but currently, I just don’t see it. DE in a 3-4?

If we can stay healthy, we have as good of a chance as anyone. We just need to get the defense up to average and get the offense rolling.
we won a game closely that we should have won easily. atlanta scored 4 times starting from our end of the field, on short possession. we spotted them 20 points before we got going.

I am not defending the defense (no pun intended), but in the first quarter, they would walk to the side line and couple of plays they were back in the field. defending from our 25, 35, 50....that's not fair to them.

the OL was OK. I was worried about the tackles, both UDFA and one a rookie, and they made some mistakes. but I was disappointed on the interrior since most plays it seemed their DTs were in the back field at the snap. williams simply sucks. with that said, the OL is like a chorus, a quintet if you will. they all have to dance and play together for it to work. one of them plays bad and the whole thing breaks down. its unlike any other position group as they have to work together, as one or it fails.

the DL interrior seems fine. I am disappointed in the ends and in our LBs....not sure about smith. I don't think he is ever going to be his college self again. he still struggles with change of direction, but my biggest peeve with him is the mental mistakes.

Let me look at my crystal ball...

we have a rag tag o-line

we have a no pressure D-line

and no secondary

let me see... it’s clearing up... I see a guy wearing #3 who just lit up a very good defense playing against our defense next week.

Time to get back to reality!!!!

they’re going to get torched and right now I’m not even sure we can count on beating the Giants or the Washington team either

We have issues. No one is debating that. The biggest are no pass rush, and a patchwork OL.

That said— there is a huge difference in 1-1 and 0-2. We are in a weak division. This team is learning how to play together on the fly— and are missing lots of key contributors.

I expect them to take their lumps and lose games... but I also think they will improve across the board— even defensively.

I expect the same thing as I did before the game whether we lost to Atlanta or not...we’ll win the NFCE and most likely the Super Bowl.

We are in the midst of preseason still IMO. Other teams will have injuries too. Too early to tell whats going to happen. Time to concentrate on winning the division until our injured players recover.

After so many years of watching the Jekyll and Hyde play of this team under JG, YIKES..I hope those days are gone and we can get some consistency in what we can expect, bottom line is RW is one of the best passers in the league and he has some legs our D is frightening, we don't know which tackles are playing.. even on our best day though this would be a tough game..The best we can hope for is our offense is right on and we have a shoot out and maybe we can out score them. Big Maybe..

Get this........
Giants AND Eagles are looking at possibly 0-3
Washington's QB makes them a sub-500 team

We just beat the Falcons after basically gift wrapping 35 points worth of turnovers ( 3 turnovers, 2 failed fake punts ) deep in their territory.

My point is unless we hit a complete wall, the division or playoff is not a question. If we eliminate the turnovers/mistakes, we're a min top 5 team in the league.

After two games, I don’t see how anyone could say we know what this team is yet. We’re very, very lucky to be 1-1.

There are a few things that are apparent at this point:
  • We played the game yesterday with 7 starters injured.
  • Our once vaunted OL is not near what it used to be.
  • Two rookie OL, Terrance Steele and Brandon Knight have actually stepped in admirably as backups and played fairly well.
  • Not surprisingly, our defense has been awful. Even on paper in the offseason, it was pretty obvious the defense would be our weakest link. So far, that has held true.
  • The Cowboys fans who say Dak isn’t that good cannot continue to say they are objective.
  • Mike McCarthy has gotten off to a rocky start in his decision making. The decision to go for two with 4 min left down 9 was incredibly foolish. It’s almost like he’s pressing to be seen as the opposite of Jason Garrett. He got lucky in the end yesterday.

A double digit loss to Seattle then hopefully we get Collins back and Smith will be good to go.

If we can get our OL healthy and our D improves enough to get a stop or 2 a game we could go on a bit of a run in October and November

1st off I don't expect to turn the ball over 3 times on fumbles and one on a fake punt that set Alt up deep in our territory. Alt scores 39 but only 10 points in the 2nd half of the game, defense played much better 2nd half. Offensively if this team gets out of their own way they are pretty damn explosive with Cooper, Gallup, CD and yes Schultz who stepped up. As for Dak his critics will not stop buy I loved what I saw in him as he put up 451 with 3 rushing TD and a passing TD. These guys never quit, never hung their head when it would have been so easy to do after the horrific start they had. Lots to clean up but I think this game is a big confidence builder for this team.

I agree but as far as defense, to me the silver lining is they were put in very bad situations early in the game as Cowboys handed the Falcons excellent field position around our own 35 yard line on 3 possession and at the 50 on the other. Entire 1st half Alt pretty much played on our side of the 50. 2nd half Alt gets 10 points. Defense is the weak link but maybe not as weak as we may think.

Are you talking about social distancing?

It didn’t seem like they had too many people in the stadium today.

21,708 in attendance.
It looked like they did. pretty good job.
Also the parking lot, for tail gating, only every other slot was available.

Contactless entry, had to use mobile ticket to scan in as one entered.

Agree with everything you said here! Honestly, not having a real off-season program with preseason games to help transition in the new coaching staff is a killer. The defense and special teams look completely out of sync right now with plenty of botched assignments along the defense. We may not know what this team actually is until the second part of the season. Should be a seriously wild ride until then.

If the offense can stay healthy, I expect it to be one of the best in the league, especially when Smith and Collins are back at tackle. Maybe we sign Leary and he pushes Williams at LG. If the OL can be dominant again, this offense could be dominant.

I would not bet my house on it, but I think the defense will slowly get better as the year goes on. The defense has had more changes than the offense, and with an abbreviated off-season, I think it shows. I think Diggs quickly becomes a very solid CB and gets us a few important Ints. The one thing we have to figure out is the pass rush. With Griffen, Smith, DLaw, and eventually Gregory, there is just too much talent on the edge to struggle. I wonder if the standing up is messing with Griffen and DLaw, I wonder if they need to just put their hand down and let Smith and Gregory do the OLB stuff.

All-in-all, due to being in a weak division, I think we go 10-6, 11-5, and hopefully build momentum as the year goes on. If the offense and the pass rush can live up to its talent, we could make some noise in the playoffs.
