I’m curious if anyone knows if he took these kind of risk in Green Bay? And as often.

And I saw the Riverboat Mike reference in Ft Worth Star Telegram. I thought it was fitting.

What do fans think about all of these risk on 4th down which aren’t panning out. Never seen anything like it in NFL. It appears very troubling to me.

He's said a few times he spent his season out of coaching following the analytics, which say to be WAY more aggressive than the average NFL coach. So far the execution hasn't always been there, the decision to go for it has been the right call to increase the probability of winning.

Yeah the execution has been horrible.

We needed more practice on these situations IMO. But hey maybe the first 2 games is our 2 preseason games were the starters play quite a bit. Need to clean up some things though.

on ST he should have stepped in and not ran those fake punts. The goal line call to go for 2 I have no issue with. It was the right thing to do. Only issue was the play call itself. I want the ball in Daks hands on that, not Zeke.Dak had the hot hand and we should have passed on the play.

our special teams are under construction lol...a work in progress. Gonna need to be patient with them and the defense. Remember, we are still trying to flush out the bad culture and habits on defense of those GARRETT HOLDOVERS. MM is seeing who wants to be here in 2021 or who doesnt.

Go back and check the tape on the Seattle championship game. he was down to the 1 yard line several times and always took the field goal. So No...He would always say later he would have gone for it if the moon and stars were aligned and something was written in the sky to go for it. But no...he did not.

I thought the first fake punt was a good idea, just poor execution by both the punter and receiver. We needed a momentum shift, and there was every reason to think the receiver would be open - and he was. The second one was ill advised. The defense had bodies stacked in the middle. If only 1 yard to go it might have made sense, but I think there was 3-4 yards to go. I didn't like the 4th down call last week.

Not like he has done in these two weeks but he may have a very good reason for doing it. He may trust his offense a lot more to convert a 4h down or execute a fake punt than he does his defense to get a stop.

Like a QB with a desperation mode like Romo had, they think they have to score every time because they do not trust the defense. McC might have that. And he's got that TOP in LA to remind him of that.

The other issue is that he doesn't know his team well yet and how they will respond. Some offenses turn it up a notch when the HC puts that kind of faith in them and execute even better but so far, that has not been the case with this offense. It is more of an execution issue than the call.

The call in LA was a bad one, the circumstances warranted tying the game and not firing up the opposition. However, this was different yesterday as he knew he had to increase the possessions for his offense because ATL was answering whenever DAL closed the gap.

We question it, the media question it but it is not a problem until the players start to question it. He is trying to get his team is a position to win and as long as that's happening, they will have his back.

That Riverboat moniker was first used on Rivera, Riverboat Ron, and his team loved his willingness to go for it. We do not know if this is a good or bad thing for this team yet

I think McC fears his own D more than going for it with his O and I can't blame him. The D is giving up an average of 29.5 a game, that might make any HC go for it a lot.

He might have spent some time with that Mad Hatter at Pulaski High in Arkansas who never punts and always goes for the onside kick. Guy seems like a lunatic until you see his record. He has all of that analytical data to back him up, he sounds like Jonah Hill in "Moneyball",

Those were some of the worst gambles I've ever seen. The pass from the punter was there, but it just fell short.

I love that we as fans are debating what the right thing to do should have been, even though we won :)

That's the guy I always think about when it comes to football analytics. Goes against everything "conventional wisdom" tells us, and just keeps racking up wins.

Art Briles went for it on almost every 4th down . Even on his side of the field. Never seen anything like it. And made it most of the time. He didn’t have very many 4th downs his last couple years with that explosive offense.

But he had more talent than the opponent usually. He did it in intimidating fashion. And wasn’t trying trickery.
