So, I'm watching the Saints @ Raiders game. The Saints are supposed to be contenders in the NFC South, right? Cuz they don't look very good at the moment. The Falcons always find ways to lose. The Bucs might be a bit tricky, but I think we may be ok against them. The 49ers are demolished. I don't think we'll lose to the Rams again if we play them. The Seahawks will be a problem as will the Cardinals. So, that takes care of one potential wild card slot. In the NFC North is terrible outside of the Packers so far.

The point of what I'm saying, we may be a dangerous team if we can A. stop turning the bloody ball over, B. when we gel, and C. our defence starts playing better. I know we're only 2 games in and some teams will start to fade and rise as usual. Especially with no offseason programs. With that said, once we start to gel under McCarthy, I am starting to get a feeling we may actually be able to make a decent playoff run. We'll, of course, need our defence to play better as stated. I'm not saying we'll go to the Super Bowl. However, with the way the rest of the NFC looks, we may actually have a shot at getting at least to the division round and maybe the NFCC, if we're lucky. That is all.

We're at least 1 dominant DT, 1 talented LB and 1 opportunistic/instinctive safety away from having a good defense. Not even great.

But if some young guys can start stepping up in the next few games and we're in the division leader mix that will be the biggest factor if we are going to make a playoff run and then a push during the tournament.

Will Trysten Hill get pressure up the middle and will Gallimore start showing he can start? Woods is solid but just that and Poe looks like he is taking a pay check. We are getting absolutely no pass rush up the middle and are not pushing back the pocket in that regard. Our run defense did improve ood playing but it still needs improvement.

On the o-line Biadasz or McGovern coming on would be huge. Shultz looks much improved and can play. Other than the o-line, I'm confident in the offense as a whole.

"Fantastic fantastic fantastic, every single one of you. and I'm not just talking about the last 60 minutes".

Anyway, this is more of a realistic post than an optimistic post. Any NFC team that cleans up the turnovers and gets better on D has a shot. Forget the defense for a moment, I want to see what this offense can do in Seattle. If the offense shows up there, and not just against crap defenses, I'll have something to look forward to. We can worry about the defense coming together later in the season. But it definitely has to improve.

I agree we can expect to improve a bit gradually through the season, as will others of course. It's a pity we play Seattle next and not in say week 8 or 9. I can't see anything but defeat this Sunday but could envisage us beating them later in the season. I still think we are 4 weeks away from being 4-2 which would be absolutely fine.

The biggest concern , which should be every team's after this weekend , is staying relatively healthy..........................Cohesion is hard to come by when you're forced to constantly rotate new faces/players into the line-up.........................

I'll say it again. It is impossible to watch other teams around the NFC and not think the Cowboys are contenders. Flawed as they might be, so is every other team in the NFC. Go right down the list of weaknesses, and every team in the NFC hits them too, or has holes elsewhere.

absolutely agree ..... but other teams will gel too. Gonna take very solid football to go anywhere. That's just how the NFL is. You can play in a crappy division and make the dance but you had better be playing well when that time comes.

I agree, and I think our offense definitely needs to show up against Seattle. If New England could move the ball like they did in Seattle, we can as well.

Oh for sure that other teams will gel, but I think we have the weapons to compete.

This year and last, we've seen that the offense can deliver.

The defense should be expected to be slow going, with fewer resources spent, lots of player turnover, and complete (?) turnover on staff.

Started with some injuries too. LVE, Lee. We'll get them back. And Gregory will be able to play soon too. I think Poe picked up in the last game. We need that.

It will be a hard slog, but the defense should get better over the season.

Yes, and this will certainly be a hard game, but I think we can do this.

If the staff isnt afraid to do the right thing and get the kids into the lineup as we go, then I can possibly agree.

It will definitely get to where many of them are the better option.

Any team with 4 turnovers in the 1st quarter and behind 20-0 is going to struggle to win. We did win and that's saying something. As the OP said, we just need the defense to play a little better and we'll be right there.
