Can any DBs cover?

Serious question. After 2 weeks, I’ve seen a couple good plays by Diggs. But overall, WRs are running free throughout our secondary. Pass rushers mean nothing when your DBs can’t cover. Thoughts?

We can't rush the passer , nor cover anyone.................Other than that , we're in great shape.......................

Honestly I think the corners have been ok. I thought they would be our burden but its really the linebackers and defensive line.

Diggs has been a pleasant surprise. I think Chido has been ok honestly. I can't speak much on Worley or Lewis yet.....Lewis has only been back for a game.

I've seen three dropped picks and a Chido pick that he caught by accident.

These guys just gave no ball skills. Diggs gives me hope.

I just don't see how you can even run a zone defensive effectively with no pass rush.

I didn't watch Goff or Ryan and come away thinking they had all day to throw.

The ball got out quick because guys were open quick.

Dallas did the same thing. It wasn't the long drawn out routes that hang your lineman out to dry like the great Jason Garrett used to do.

Have to remember we're running a different scheme in the secondary, Richard isn't here anymore, I'd have to wait until the guys have a couple more games under their belt before I'd make a judgment on individual players. Charlie Waters wasn't a very good cornerback, but a very good safety. Randy White wasn't a good MLB, but a great DT.

Players have to be put where they can best use their skills, and get to know how others on the team play, that takes a bit of time...

We have been sucking at the zone defense for so long, I think they just forgot what man coverage is at this point.

I expected a lot of press man....I just don't get what you have to lose. I can see if you are facing some crap quarterbacks but I'm not sitting back and letting Matt Ryan pick me apart and leaving guys wide open.

chido is finally looking back for the ball. diggs has been outstanding. worley almost had a pick. they'll keep getting better as the season progresses. imo

Or the coaches know the DBs can't cover worth a you-know-what...

That's the thing though.....Lewis, Chido and Diggs are known for their coverage skills in man.....it seems like you are wasting them just having them sit back in a zone with no pass rush. How do you even get coverage sacks if you are just sitting back there?

I agree. And Chido looks a lot better already. We just need the plays to follow suit even though he does have a one pick already.

Indeed, Nolan's play calling leaves a lot to be desired. Early in the game, it's Marinelli 2.0, the infamous BBDB. It seems that the Cowboys Dee is not even trying to dominate the LOS, just "keep everything in front of them", and hope the offense makes a mistake. "Hold them to a FG!"

So then of course the DBs, sitting back in soft zones, they look pretty bad. I can't even tell yet if they are as bad as they look with this defensive scheme. Calling blitzes in the 2nd half is almost too late, IMO, because by then the defensive mindset is still passive. Hard to switch it up all of a sudden. The game plans just look mediocre at best, so then the entire defense looks lost.

Doesn't help that the Cowboys LBs aren't making much impact, but if you KNOW this, then blitz them more, or at least threaten to blitz more. Make it a chess match. Why don't the Cowboys ever put 9 in the box and give the offense something to think about? Sheesh! The philosophy is just bad unto itself.

And of course, we only get gift turnovers....we need LBs and DBs attacking the ball, trying to strip it and punch it out. Like defenses in the past, there's just not enough aggression, and that starts with the coach.

I agree but it seems like this might even worse than Maranelli's......Maranelli's defense didn't give up big chunk plays and it seems like this defense can do that. I just don't know what the identity is.

It just lines up and tries to get a stop. Its the one coach that IMO is doing nothing to help this team out. I'm trying to give him the benefit of the doubt of having a new defense but I'm afraid scheme may be the issue and even if they get use to playing in it I don't see the rewards of it.

Yeah I'm w you there.

If anything the corners have been better than I would have expected.

The front seven is atrocious.

I just dont think the horses are there, especially inside.

Poe looks shot, Crawford has always stunk, Hill is coming along, but Gallimore seems slow to develop.

To me that's where we are getting beat...right up the gut....vs both run and pass.
