It was a good hit but it didnt get flagged because he didnt act like he was hurt. You have to act like it by staying down like soccer.

Don’t matter if he didn’t have time to catch the ball and square up and take a step.

Pretty sure it matters. Unless that’s a recent tweak to the defenseless player rule.

QBs are considered defenseless when passing. You can hit them.

It’s funny you mention this because, idk if it was shown in the highlights or not, Lamb lit someone up with a perfect block and it was called back as illegal.

It didn't look like helmet-to-helmet flag material to me but the game feed glossed over it and moved on without really giving me a great look, so I might be hilariously wrong.

It sounded bad, but I can't always tell the difference between the *crack* of helmets hitting and other gear hitting (and with reduced crowds and crowd noise, perhaps all these hits this year just sound worse because we're hearing them better?).

The game wasn't televised here in CT, so I just watched a condensed highlights video. There was one catch where Noah Brown got absolutely blasted, the moment he caught the ball. That's all the video showed before moving on to the next play. My question is, did they throw a flag for that hit, and if not, do you think they should have?

Could have been a flag on two fronts. The only question I see is if you consider the hit "unnecessary" per the rule wording below. The other frame of reference is that hit on Cooper by Ramsey the week before where it was initially called a fumble but reversed. If he didn't fumble that means he did not clearly become a runner. So perhaps that one was not deemed an unnecessary hit because I don't think you have to stand there and let him catch it.

ARTICLE 9. PLAYERS IN A DEFENSELESS POSTURE. It is a foul if a player initiates unnecessary contact against a player
who is in a defenseless posture.
(a) Players in a defenseless posture are:
(1) A player in the act of or just after throwing a pass (passing posture).
(2) A receiver running a pass route when the defender approaches from the side or behind. If the receiver becomes a blocker

or assumes a blocking posture, he is no longer a defenseless player.
(3) A receiver attempting to catch a pass who has not had time to clearly become a runner. If the player is capable of avoiding

or warding off the impending contact of an opponent, he is no longer a defenseless player.
(4) The intended receiver of a pass in the action during and immediately following an interception or potential interception. If
the player is capable of avoiding or warding off the impending contact of an opponent, he is no longer a defenseless
player.
Note: Violations of this provision will be enforced after the interception, and the intercepting team will maintain
possession.
(5) A runner already in the grasp of a tackler and whose forward progress has been stopped.
(6) A kickoff or punt returner attempting to field a kick in the air who has not had time to clearly become a runner. If the player
is capable of avoiding or warding off the impending contact of an opponent, he is no longer a defenseless player (for
enforcement, see 10-1-1 and AR 12.72).
(7) A player on the ground.
(8) A kicker/punter during the kick or during the return (Also see Article 8-h) for additional restrictions against a kicker/punter).
(9) A quarterback at any time after a change of possession (Also see Article 11-e) for additional restrictions against a
quarterback after a change of possession).
(10) A player who receives a “blindside” block when the path of the blocker is toward or parallel to his own end line.
(11) The offensive player who attempts a snap during a Field Goal attempt or a Try Kick. He is no longer a defenseless player
after he has had an opportunity to defend himself or moves downfield.

I actually brought this up in the Noah thread.

I guess it's okay to tackle someone like that, but not block them. You know, because it's..just different.

All sarcasm aside, I'm with you and just as perplexed.

If he would have just laid there motionless for about 2 seconds they would have thrown a flag.
Flopping, it is popular in soccer and basketball. Soon to be popular in the NFL.

Jalen Ramsey basically flopped because he knew he was beat. It's coming

I had no issue with them not calling it but it confused me when it happened because I've seen that get flagged. I Was more concerned with Noah Brown being good he got ROCKED! He ate it though.

Insanely stupid rule, now a defender is supposed to allow the catch put his feet down and start running then make hit lol LMAO you touch the ball football says you now are a target for a defender to dislodge said ball or make tackle.. thats football..

its funny now how the rules are manipulating sports to be more successful through rules

unless someone hits you in the back or early or when you are not part of the play all these rules are ridiculous..

same thing with blocks like on lamb that 100% a clean football block...the rules are stupid and yet they cant get PI or OPI even close to consistent..

oh and the argument these rules keep stars on the field , protects players etc etc

really you checked the IR of late?

I get rules like head shots close lines and just dirty hits from the past but these are outrageous and taking real football out of the game..

Jaylon Smith was flagged for his hit on Julio Jones early in the game. If I remember correctly, Jones was turning upfield and sort of slipped, causing his upper body to lower. Jaylon then made helmet to helmet contact. If Jones hadn't slipped it would have been a perfect hit, but probably would have still drawn a flag. The Noah Brown's of the world don't get that flag, while the Julio Jones's do.
