Can any DBs cover?

Any good pass D needs one of two things. A pass rush that helps the secondary or a secondary that give the pass rush an additional .5 second. The Cowboys have neither at this time. But a lot of teams don't have that, in fact, most.

Have you not seen receivers running loose through all of the secondary's so far? Wilson hit 5 different receivers for TDs, those no name receivers for NE were loose all day, Carr hit 11 different receivers and the Saints were running free through the Raiders secondary all night.

Just the games I have watched so far, it hasn't been hitting the open man, it's which man is the most open? And I don't think this is going to improve as the season progresses and more players are lost from the secondary's.

The problem is passrush. I mean even the announcers where saying Ryan is just setting in the pocket comfortable with a lot of time to wait for long developing routes.
Its like last year all over again. Passrush and missed opportunities for turnovers on defense.

Yes, if you simply rush 4, then I expect 7 people to be able to cover the 4 or 5 receivers out in routes, especially if you study tape and see their tendencies, their favorite routes, so you can jump some of them sometimes (which they RARELY do).

And if a defense can't get consistent pressure, and/or if it can't cover well, then I expect a chess match at the LOS. I expect disguised blitz pressure, or the threat of blitz only to drop 7 into coverage, some creativity, an ATTEMPT to get into the QBs and the opposing OC's heads. Basically, I expect some better schemes, to help the defense to do their job. Not rolling out the same plays and formations, simply hoping for different results.

Honestly I think the corners have been ok. I thought they would be our burden but its really the linebackers and defensive line.

Diggs has been a pleasant surprise. I think Chido has been ok honestly. I can't speak much on Worley or Lewis yet.....Lewis has only been back for a game.

I am inclined to agree with this, at least for the Rams game. Goff really worked on the LBs. I think we need help at safety too. I think the CBs are good enough if they get some help from the rest of the defense.

Diggs. That’s about it

He’s been beat a number of times. He’s in position to make plays but he hasn’t made any. Don’t get me wrong he has potential but the jury is still out. It’s trial by fire for him. We’ll see where his confidence is at the end of the season. Our nonexistent pass rush isn’t doing him or any of our DBs any favors.

Serious question. After 2 weeks, I’ve seen a couple good plays by Diggs. But overall, WRs are running free throughout our secondary. Pass rushers mean nothing when your DBs can’t cover. Thoughts?
They actually appear pretty capable of covering. The problem has been more in recognizing their assignments. The WR's that are all by themselves in the secondary are mostly from a blown assignment.

Sunday they actually were in position for an INT 3-4 times and couldn't come up with the catch.

Chido had a very good game last game. I'm not sure where this is coming from.
People get fixated on a narrative they want a stick to it. Digs was the opposite he got scorched several times during the game including the drop by Jones that would have sealed it!

too much off man coverage by the DBs.

that 7-10 yd cushion is killing us.

so much for the press coverage everyone was talking about.

It’s Bend But Don’t Break version 2.0, Nolan style.

I agree but it seems like this might even worse than Maranelli's......Maranelli's defense didn't give up big chunk plays and it seems like this defense can do that. I just don't know what the identity is.

It just lines up and tries to get a stop. Its the one coach that IMO is doing nothing to help this team out. I'm trying to give him the benefit of the doubt of having a new defense but I'm afraid scheme may be the issue and even if they get use to playing in it I don't see the rewards of it.

maybe play more cover 3.

Yet everyone is in love with him after that game....very odd.

The offense and Special Teams combined to turn the ball over 5 times and give the Rams a short field but the Cowboys won.

The secondary can't be that bad...

More thoughtful. But still misguided. Regardless of the turnovers, after first two drives when they were feeling us out, ATL punted 2 times the rest of the game. Our secondary sucked all day. And they sucked last week even worse.
