So Dallas has not been the worst defense in the league. Most advanced sites I’ve found have it around leave average with run defense slightly above league average and pass defense slightly below.

The big complaint has been lack of pressure So I went to see how bad it’s been and Dallas is 19th in pressure % at 20%. Below Dallas is somehow the Rams. I didn’t watch their game Sunday but I noticed they didn’t have any sacks.

The age old problem with statistics is that you can find a stat to back up all and any points of view.

Say Dak hands off to Zeke and he runs 3 yards.

Now assume that play was a 1st and 10 on the opposition 18 yard line in the 4th quarter when we lead by 16 points.

Now assume that play was a desperate 4th and 4 on our own 30 yard line when we are down by 6 with a minute to play.

Statistical analysis of the numbers does not know the difference between those two plays.

After watching a few games I came away thinking that the limited off-season and no preseason crushed the hopes of getting the new scheme fully implemented. The players seem a step slow and I don't think that would be the case in a familiar scheme. The coaches probably needed a few live games to see what the players could and could not do effectively (hint, DLaw and two point stance do not look like a winning combination).

I don't think the defense will click on all cylinders until mid-season.

Agree. I figured even if a normal off-season 3 to 4 games was still needed. But 6 to 8 sounds about right. That we will see what it really may be with the current talent level. As they are still missing players such as S's. Maybe not even until game 10. As long as they improve game to game. But I am sure there will be hiccups along the way that we will want to throw the remotes at the TV or wall.

Most everybody knows that stats are fungible, but they are still a good snapshot. How you read them is entirely up to you.

The Washington Football teams has 11 sacks in 2 games. They have 3 players with as many sacks as the Cowboys entire team.
They invested high picks on the DLine and for the most part they are working out.
