Have to remember we're running a different scheme in the secondary, Richard isn't here anymore, I'd have to wait until the guys have a couple more games under their belt before I'd make a judgment on individual players. Charlie Waters wasn't a very good cornerback, but a very good safety. Randy White wasn't a good MLB, but a great DT.

Players have to be put where they can best use their skills, and get to know how others on the team play, that takes a bit of time...

I mentioned this in another post.

1. Front 6 is all playing new front 2/4 - we have 2 DT and 2 RLB and 2 MLB your playing 2 Gap Assignment reading off play flow.
2. your back 5 are all playing different now, we are not doing single high safety and bump and run.

WE need at min half of the year to see how they settle in to this. I liked how much better they played in 2nd half after DLAW went out with injury. You had 3 DL with Hill, POE, Griff... then you had 3 LB Smith(RUSH), Jaylon(OLB) & Thomas covering (best Cover LB we have). when they went to the 2/4 they pulled Griff out and put in Armstrong or Anae and they were getting pressure all over the place. We might need to trade DLAW if it keeps going like this.

in the game they were talking about the 2 pt vs 3 pt stance and how D Law has to do it differently now than he always has

More thoughtful. But still misguided. Regardless of the turnovers, after first two drives when they were feeling us out, ATL punted 2 times the rest of the game. Our secondary sucked all day. And they sucked last week even worse.

Atlanta had 7 possession after a kick or punt (i.e. not from a turnover with a short field).
- They scored on 3 or 7.
- With 7 possessions that a potential of 49 points. The Falcons scored 17 which is 34.6% success rate.

Fans only seem to conceive of two level of performance.
- Great or Sucks.

Just because the secondary was not great does not mean that it sucked.

I didn't watch Goff or Ryan and come away thinking they had all day to throw.

The ball got out quick because guys were open quick.

Dallas did the same thing. It wasn't the long drawn out routes that hang your lineman out to dry like the great Jason Garrett used to do.

The Rams get the ball out quick by design because McVay knows Goff is severely limited as a traditional drop back passer. Goff was running bootleg 4 yard flips to the TE and WR/RB screens all game.

Receivers are running free through a lot of secondaries in the NFL right now. This has not been a great first two weeks for defense in the NFL.

yeah he's been a down DL since college so its going to take more than 2 games to figure it out as well he's not the twitchest person and you need that to be a rush LB

That’s fair. I’ll accept not great. That our secondary is not great does not make me feel good going against Russ this week, and for the rest of the season. Especially now with Chido out.

Secondary hasn't been great the last few years, but in the recent games against Wilson, the biggest point total by any team has been 24, if history holds this won't be a high scoring game, but then again history is that things change all the time in the NFL.

I'll be able to see this game hopefully, will be in Tennessee for a few days and if the rental house has Fox maybe we'll get to see it...

Serious question. After 2 weeks, I’ve seen a couple good plays by Diggs. But overall, WRs are running free throughout our secondary. Pass rushers mean nothing when your DBs can’t cover. Thoughts?
Defensive Line Pressure is the key to coverage, sacks, and interceptions. If you can not push the pocket from the middle into the QBs face and pinch pressure from the outside rush, you get torched like Elvis Patterson...TOAST.
