The only way I see this changing is if they tighten up rules on WR pick plays. That play has single handedly changed the NFL. That play has an incredibly high rate of success in short yardage and the red zone. It's one of the plays that's led to the decline of the running game because, like a good run game, it's good for 4 yards every time.

It will continue trending upward because every rule change favors offense.
We're way past the point of getting excited about ending the drive with a field goal. Some of us actually get ticked off & feel cheated.

Shocking.... Exactly what the nfl wants. Garbage football but best for ratings.
Very right.

It's starting to look like when baseball turned the other way on steroids for greed....

Then people started hitting 70 homers and it got ridiculous.

The NFL is getting there. How many times is a losing team going to have 30 points?

10 of the NFL's 20 highest scoring seasons have occurred in the last 20 years. It will continue trending upward because every rule change favors offense.
Also every questionable PI call goes to the offense.

As long as fantasy football brings in the casual fan, it wont change.

I agree. That's why I can't understand why Garrett won't use those plays. Him and his silly process have taken our offense aback for many years and have given every team we faced a decisive advantage. I'm so glad that clapper is gone for good.

On another note, I'm liking the playcalling that Moore whipped up against Atlanta. More bootlegs, play actions and misdirections.

Has anyone been surprised how good our TEs our in blocking including Jarwin? Lets thank Garrett again for holding back our TEs in favor of Witten playing.

dunno about other teams,..but especially with new defenses such as us need that lengthy time to have time to learn. adapt and adjust the new schemes..

teams don't really get chance to get into tackle mode without the pre-season work, (another reason why i don't believe in future zero preseason) ..and certainly doesn't help having any OTA or offseason didn't help matters..we only had limited training camp to put anything together..
i would like to think it eventually grips together as season progresses

It may or may not but at what price? Injuries have already cost some team major players 2 games into the season.

The nfl has turned a blind eye to PEDs for years . Just fans turn a blind eye to it.

It was a because the NFL pushed it that way through rules that neuter defensive importance.
They should remove and/or lesson half the rules now that dampen the the effect of good ball play on defensive side of the ball.
Higher scoring games may be fun for the youth, and obviously reason for the changes, but like music you just shouldn't mess with a good thing. Good smash mouth football, like old cars

Meanwhile, the offensive production in New York is booming if it was the stone age

No one wants to sit through a 3-9 game but its beautiful to me. I'm hard core.
I would rather do that. I much prefer bto watch high school football because it's more pure to normal football rules. Obviously lesser talent but oh so fun to watch. I get my football fix watching High School football now

But, but, what about those missing preseason games? The O's are usually behind the D's to start the season and start off pretty sloppy with mistakes and penalties. Have you seem that because I have not and have looked for that specific element to this.

Same have tried to point to the soft tissue injuries as a lack of preseason games but that didn't show up in week one, why?

I will never be convinced that these coaches need preseason games and the ones that say that are pleasing their owners because they do not want the easy money going away.

Coaches use their own set up in practice and scrimmages to assess talent and you will see that in college as the SEC opens play against each other and then the Big 10 in a month, they do not need preseason games and they're playing a lot more inexperienced players.

Think about this from a player's perspective. The only way you have a chance of making it if you are on the bubble is impressing your coaches in a set up of their own making, not going against come other bubble players in a meaningless game.

If the NFL had stayed with that, they wouldn't be where they are today. The fringe fans and fantasy players is why it's grown to where it is today. The purists do not comprise a large enough audience.

I grew up with the best of both worlds. The NFL for the type of ball you're talking about and the AFL for track meet football. Having both made me appreciate both more.

Ugh. Field goals. I'm fine with low-scoring defensive battles but not a kickfest.

Field goals have become way too easy. They need to move the goalposts closer together: bring FG success rates down to where they were 50 years ago. More 4th down football plays, fewer kicking plays.
