1) Atanta starting at Dal 43, 40, 29, 20: practically spotting 12 points, gave up 16 points
2) Atlanta starting in their 20s - 4 punts, 2 tds, fg - 17 points
3) Atlanta starting from their 48 - Completely blown coverage for a TD.

But for the completely blown coverage, that's a good game by the defense against a good offense. This is not a defense that had a bad day. A good day with 1 horrible play.

1) is a clear win.
2) is a win to a wash.
3) screw up.

# Quarter Time LOS Plays Length Yds Result
1 1 15:00 ATL 25 3 1:27 8 Punt
2 1 12:47 ATL 28 3 0:57 5 Punt
3 1 11:06 DAL 22 1 0:08 22 Touchdown
4 1 9:26 ATL 48 4 1:49 52 Touchdown
5 1 5:52 DAL 29 4 1:26 5 Field Goal
6 1 4:10 DAL 40 7 3:04 31 Field Goal
7 2 12:09 ATL 25 12 6:11 75 Touchdown

The titanic had a great voyage except for that iceberg.

I saw a lot of bad defense that didn’t result in huge plays. I think we will improve. With a new coach and no training camp I’m not panicking yet but it’s hard to look for the silver lining when they give up 39.

Defense played terrible for the 2nd week in a row. But you can pretend they didn't. FYI...…………….you are now banned from any rational football conversation.

Good post! Early turnovers and coaching put them behind the eight ball. Add the fact, they're still feeling their way through the new scheme and players it's not to see it's going take a few games. Frankly, if we're being honest, the offense is expected to carry the D first few games. Remember MM admitted during his first presser the D could expect many changes, whereas the offense would remain intact.

The defense played well in the 2nd half, giving up 10 points. However, they still moved the ball at times with ease. With a longer field, most offenses will eventually be held to at least a FG, or a chance to punt inside the 10. There were still many open receivers. The defense did hustle to the ball though to prevent 1st downs inside their own 40. Or it seemed.

I want to see how they are prepared for Seattle, and how they adjust if need be.
They need another 4 games to see what what they can still be. As in getting better, or be what they are. Mediocre at best. Maybe it will take 8 to 10 games.

Just with the money and resources spent on players, the offense should be expected to carry the team. Been that way for a long time.

Carrying is one thing, but you cannot win in the NFL if you are consistently giving up 30 points per game. You just cannot do it. The fact that ATL seemed near unstoppable on offense after their first 2 drives were stopped is a red flag. They gave up 450 yards total. That number alone is a giant red flag. 39 points is a crimson flag.

You are not beating even mediocre teams playing like that.

Yes. The dropped passes on 3rd down, including one that should have been a TD to Jones surely helped. Another time Jones was open deep for a TD and Ryan under threw the ball allowing Diggs to get back into the play to break up the score.

Def's ID should be it's front seven. They cant even apply pressure to Ryan who normally gets sacked rolling out of bed.

There was some improvement in that they were able to get off the field in the 2nd half but I wouldn’t say they turned the corner and are on the way to being good. I don’t like the scheme as it seems too passive. No pressure on the QB and wide open zones for WRs and TEs to run free in. Just seems too easy for a smart and talented team to go up and down the field. Very few contested catches and stops at or near the LOS. It seems they give ground on nearly every play and need the other team to make mistakes to stop them. I was expecting a more attacking defense trying to force 3rd and longs so they could send Smith and others after the QB to get off the field. Disappointing that they decided to go with a bend until you break scheme instead.

But the defense didn't give up 39.

The offense gave up 12, with a chance for a lot more, and the defense held it to 16.

Carrying is one thing, but you cannot win in the NFL if you are consistently giving up 30 points per game.

Compared to the rest of the league, our defense is relatively handicapped by coaching and player turnover. We've played two of the better offenses. Offenses are rolling across the league.

The first handicap should lessen, the second will surely, the last indicates that much of the problem is general circumstance for defenses across the league, not just us.
