Ugh. Field goals. I'm fine with low-scoring defensive battles but not a kickfest.

Field goals have become way too easy. They need to move the goalposts closer together: bring FG success rates down to where they were 50 years ago. More 4th down football plays, fewer kicking plays.
majority rules...

No one wants to sit through a 3-9 game but its beautiful to me. I'm hard core.
I don't but I think it can be a good watch. Some teams are just bad and can't score. But if two defenses are getting stops I think its a thing of beauty.

Why do we need goalposts? Why not just goalpost. The PK hits it or no points and the distance he misses it by is added to the field position of the team taking over on offense.

I like it! Teams would stop rostering a kicker (and just have the punter handle kickoffs, until they banish kickoffs anyway).

This is why I’m more concerned about how our defense looks a month from now and don’t really care how it looks today.

Defenses are struggling.

It's why things like passer rating and passing yards will continue to rise, as they have for 40 years.
A rough guess at what was a "good rating" was in each decade

  • 85 in 1980-1990
  • 90 in 1990-2000
  • 95 in 2000-2010
  • 100 in 2010-2020
  • 105 in 2020-2030?

9 players finished with a rating over 100 in both 2018 and 2019,
1 and 5 players finished with a rating over 100 in 2008 and 2009 respectively

The NFL career leader list for passer rating will be full of newer guys and most franchises will see all or most of their passing records fall to whoever is QBing more recently (if that player is at least decent)

So many reasons why it's easier now (rules protecting QB and WRs, formations including 3-4 WRs, etc, etc)
Definitely makes for a chance at more offense!

Shocking.... Exactly what the nfl wants. Garbage football but best for ratings.
I think it's very entertaining. There have been some great games of late. Those 10-6 games are pretty boring.

Did you watch week 1? Specifically, the Cowboys game? lol
Haha, yes right.

I shouldnt speak in absolutes.

Let's say generally things tend to promote the ball moving forward....

But yeah nice one lol.

Wonder how the 2000 Ravens would do in 2020.

I do think the days of winning it all with a great defense and Trent Dilfer is about over.

I think this one is going to continue to struggle, it was always about riding this offense as far as it can take them.

Another big cause for inflated offensive numbers is the empty stadiums. No crowds, despite whatever junk they pipe through the PA system, benefits the offense a lot more than the defense, which often feeds off the live crowd.

Id say its been the slow death for defenses because of the lack of true live hitting and tackling in practices and OTA, TC, etc etc the offenses go full speed and get sharp with no contact..

add to it rule changes and injuries and now this season no PS games at all and less Off season practices.. this was expected ..

I think the defense has upside.

I may be very wrong but that group of pass rushers is pretty strong and should get better as the season goes and we will also be adding Randy Gregory to that.

LVE is a huge loss. The way LVE played as a rookie is game changing and I think people have forgotten just how good he is. That's a big loss that we will get back.

Diggs will get better as the season goes on and the secondary should be solid once Brown and Awuzie get healthy.

I think the Cowboys offense should be so good that if our defense can hold opposing offenses to 20, like they did against the Rams, then we can win the majority of those games.
