And similar criticisms have been made of Jaylon Smith as well. He's not considered one of the most "cerebral" of players either.

Maybe he needs to spend more time and effort studying that playbook?

After all, his own struggles predate Nolan getting here.

Lol

Bill Belichick just put Jaylon Smith on his do not sign list. Could you imagine what he'd do having to learn that playbook.

It sounds like the players need to get together and discuss this thing in house, instead of putting it out there for public consumption.

If Jaylon had any inkling of what he was doing, he'd be better off taking his complaints to someone qualified to correct the situation.

This is the type of crap that simply tends to create more problems than anything else. It'll wind up serving as a source of distraction.

More time studying your playbook less time working on your "brand".
This ^^^^^^^. This time it really is a process that you're expected to learn better than the opposition.

Mosher, of course, ignores Nolan’s history. One of the criticisms of Nolan and why many of his more recent defenses were suspect is that his scheme was often too complicated.

So Mosher can take his dig at Smith but the reality is Smith is saying something that has been alleged before. Griffen just said a couple of days ago he’s going back to his three point stance, so already it seems the players don’t think Nolan is doing them any favors.

Granted not sure Smith should be airing this publicly.

IMO, when we look back I think we are going to end up admitting that Nolan was a questionable hire.
He will be playing for the Browns soon.

It’s just to complicated right now. He should not have ask them to know the whole playbook. Use the simpler stuff. 4-3 stuff that’s made for the D-Line. I hope it’s not too simple that makes them predictable. Then your right back to our problem before. I guess there is no easy way to have both.

Not hearing what? Nolan has never had consistent great defenses. That's the point. You said you are not buying it because the Ryans had great defenses but then not here. But Nolan never had consistent great defenses, in fact his last two stops he had he had some pretty dreadful defenses, so I am not sure it's safe to assume it's the players only and Nolan is hindered by his defensive talent.

Again you'd have a better argument here if Nolan was considered this uber genius, wildly successful DC when we hired him. He was not.

ive seen the same group fail year in and year out no matter the defense..its an EXCUSE best left in the Garett era..

Ill trust the coaches especially MM to figure it out but the layers using it as another excuse to why they got bloated contracts and cant run a exotic defense..

they whined and complained Marinelli's defense was to easy and offenses knew what was coming..

again not buying it because they suked in Marinelli's easy vanilla d and now this is too hard..

EXCUSES GALORE.. WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:rolleyes::popcorn:

Based on seeing most defense struggling this season around the NFL I get why a player may feel that too much change with no pre season is hindering the defense. Nolan may have to simplify some things so players can get up to speed. Cowboys kept the offense for the most part but the big changes took place on defense with quite a few new faces.

that odd every know it all in here say Nolan cant coaches and should be fired.. sound slie they and the players are just looking for excuses and quick fixes.. well i guess defense for dummies play book now in play..wonder if Mcvays and Reids players complain the offense is too hard...that the offenses that cant wait to look over and wink because they are about to turn our defense out..

RW step on up next in lone to light this defense up..

It is simple.
Start by fixing the DL. Get Lee and LVE back on the field, as Jaylon misses their help. But a strong pass rush cure a lot of issues.

Better DL play helps the LB's do their jobs better. Which in turn helps the DB's do the job better.

Jaylon is correct about the playbook, but it is not from being too complicated. It is by not allowing the DL play to their strengths with the DE's having a hand on the ground. None of this standing hybrid DE / LB crap. I knew that was a bad idea from the start. But refrained from saying it too much. As I wanted to see how it looked and worked. I know lack of PS and off-season and only 2 games. But it has not been a good start.

Jaylon missing angles and hitting the wrong gaps has nothing to do with scheme
bingo. Has to do with layers of things, one of which is NOT SCHEME. Jaylon either can't cut it, or he fails in his prep work during the week. Its one or the other. What was his excuse the last several years? Scheme was to simple and predictable? Ya'll have to recall that. That was the running theme. Now that we hired a real DC and staff, he is now complaining again. This guy just needs to get it together or lets find someone else.

I see us drafting LB’s early next year...
I say we draft at least 2 guys and sign a free agent. We have no choice. I want to keep Joe Thomas. That guy has won me over. He makes no excuses and works hard, does his job and puts a hat on the ball carrier. We need more like him.
