The Food and Drug Administration issued a warning Thursday about the dangers of the "Benadryl Challenge," a rumored TikTok stunt that involves ingesting high doses of the allergy medication to induce hallucinations.

"We are aware of news reports of teenagers ending up in emergency rooms or dying after participating in the 'Benadryl Challenge' encouraged in videos posted on the social media application TikTok," the FDA warning says.

What's wrong with these kids? Why can't they just take a little dose of blotter acid like we did?

Come on kids jeez. I wasn't much better unfortunately, I remember we went through a Robitussin phase and found out other kids livers were being destroyed so put an end to that thankfully.

Was a cheap stupid thing to try. Who knows what we would've been doing if we could "show off" to the world via Tik Tok

Damn, I had to spend an hour in the bathroom stall with a bottle from the mimeograph machine to get that high. I hallucinated and thought there were many me's.

Nah. People have been doing dumb stuff forever. Now it just gets captured and shared on video with ease.
Ever do this one? Have a buddy stand behind you, squat down and hyperventilate and then stand up fast and pass out and have him catch you...or not.

Hell, my parents thought I was obsessed with building model airplanes.

Man, I can't play that "stupid young people" card. And sometimes I think all I've done is age.

So they didn't say, "Hey wait a minute; this is a drug, and we're not using it as intended -- something bad might happen"? No, I guess not. That would make too much sense.

Another thing that drives me nuts about this -- this will end up changing laws so you have to have a prescription to get Benadryl. Then next time you have a terrible cold, it will be a bunch more trouble to treat it. That's so annoying, and is an oft-repeated theme. They could safely have Tylenol with codeine available over the counter if they knew people would only use it as directed. It is over the counter in Mexico. Other people's stupidity makes life difficult for everyone else.

That's why we have to buy the wifey's allergy meds from the pharmacy. Stupid druggies extracting the stuff to make them high.

TikTok; a prime example of societal decay.

I know this is an overplayed comment/joke, but, it really does feel like Idiocracy was a documentary.

I'm not going to argue that, but, I do believe that social media further encourages this dumb behavior. People will do some stupid things to get a like, or a heart, or whatever it is that the next social platform offers. They feel the need to have their life validated by others to pump up their self-confidence and e-cred.

Social media has shown the narcissistic side of people as well.
Starting with myspace and facebook, it really has evolved into a look at me, give me likes, type of world.

Some just need to document their life publicly for some reason down to what they are eating, or that they had an argument with their boyfriend and want assurance they were in the right.

And of course some get involved in these stupid challenges cause they feel left out or as you said need to have their life validated.
I'm young enough to have enjoyed life as a kid without social media and then as a teen seeing stuff like myspace take off. It's almost like common sense has gone down the drain the past 10-20 years for kids. Don't get me wrong, I did stupid stuff at times, but at least I wasn't dumb enough to try to eat detergent or od on benadryl. Oh, and post it for anyone one to see.

Mike Judge really did nail Idiocracy.

Never even imagined much of the idiocy I hear about now......from deadly selfies to chronicling suicides and other felonies, we have officially gone mad.
