Chip Kelly’s offense didn’t work because they went 3 and out way too often

There’s a difference in wanting a pace that if you’re moving the ball will lead to you averaging twice the amount of plays as your opponent versus wanting to score as fast as your particular offensive scheme allows. Think the difference between say the Greatest Show on Turf, which in my mind really moved the needle towards the modern NFL more than any other team and Chip Kelly’s teams. A goal of Kelly’s was literally to run twice as many plays as the other team. He thought if you did that, the averages would play out in your favor because of increased opportunity. That worked fine in college where you could apply huge athletic mismatches to your scheme at your leisure but you’re not going to get huge athletic mismatches in the NFL. Even “unathletic” players are still too athletic for Kelly’s strategy to work.

Why do the idiots associated with this team continue to discuss gameplans and personell shifts openly in the middle of the week with the media?! What a damn circus.

The faster you score usually means the less 3rd downs you have to face.

If I can face 1 3rd down on a drive versus 3 then my chances of success are a lot greater. Does not mean I have to pick up 40 on a play but 10-20 yard chunks get down the field very quick.

and so could we, thats the point its great until it doesnt work..
No offense works if you go three and out too often. That’s the point. Whether you’re going uptempo or not a three and out is still awful for your defense.

Personally, I find this funny. It doesn't matter what MM says to the press. Is Seattle going to say, "oh look, that dumb SOB told us their game plan. So, now all we have to do is plan on playing a lot of pass defense." ?? Of course not. They still have to rely on their film and they still have to plan on stopping Zeke, and they still have to be prepared to cover all the wide outs and the tight end. This comment of McCarthy's does not help Seattle in any way and has to be taken with a grain of salt. All of the complaining about his comments and the gnashing of teeth bemoaning the "giving away the secret plan" is silly.

Thoughts?

The Cowboys just need to score TDs. Whether it's in 3 plays or 15 play drives. Both Seattle games have been close at the half. Dallas just needs to play a clean game and find themselves in a close game in the 3rd quarter. Finish even in the turnover battle and no more than 3 punts - we'll have a close game.

Because McCarthy is assuming that Pete Carroll knows he has probably the worst pass defense in the NFL right now and we have a juggernaut WR unit so it’s obvious what we will try to do.

I can see this game going opposite of what people think and Dallas be the team on full out attack mode and Seattle trying to establish the run with Carson to keep our offense off the field.

We have 3 studs at WR and we also have what many on here tell me is a QB worth 40 million dollars.

They have a terrible defense with no pass rush.

We should be able to light them up.

Just run the offense like you did in week 2 and cut out the sloppy garbage and start looking like professionals. That is the only difference between Dallas and Seattle is Dallas plays boneheaded football and Seattle doesn't beat themselves.

When we play slow we do not play good football.
You’re the best poster on here

We will be in this game. We will be able to score with them. First defense with 2nd half stops will win.

My thought is that he shouldnt be telling Seattle the teams thoughts.
He isn't.

Have you not begun to understand McCarthy?

He likes to keep people guessing and he is going to be unpredictable at times.

That's why all the fake punts, blanking out jersey numbers and going for 2pt conversions.

He wants to win and has studied percentages and has re-invent himself in his year off. After 12 years as a HC he got sloppy calling plays and was eventually fired. Team had a good book on him.

So he is forcing that he is going to change his tendencies and win.

I think you have to not think in terms of how things were under Garrett. He was completely predictable.

Not Big Mike.

Starting to agree with Rodgers on the "low football IQ" thing.

Ideally, you want to score, but take as much time as you can to do so.

Theres zero advantage to doing so sooner than later, provided you DO score.

Saying you want to "score as fast as you can" makes little sense. You want to SCORE, period. That score is worth that much more if it took ten minutes as opposed to ten seconds.
Not really.

Scenario 1:
Average 8 minutes per possession. Score on half of possessions and punt on half of possessions.

Scenario 2:
Average 2 minutes per possession and score a TD on every possession.
