It's been 25 years....how pathetic is that? Not to mention we've never made it to an NFC Championship game since then too.

All because, Jerry wasted a decade on the JG experience!

Unfortunately, not entirely due to the JG experience. JG was still a player the first 5 years. Thanks, Jerry.

I am so glad people realize that. 1995 was the last SB season. January 1996 was the last time the Cowboys won a divisional round game. Man you are opening up all my old wounds. To this day I cannot forget the news of Jimmy and Jerry parting ways. Today it would have broken twitter. Band to back champions HC leaving. Jerry Jones saying I could get 500 coaches to do what Jimmy is doing.
But us Cowboys fans have accepted mediocrity, plain and simple. We shed tears over Romo retiring or if Romo got replaced. False hero worship...
Jerry Jones has won life but he has been an abject failure tin running this organization. I am not even asking for a SB, I am happy even getting to a championship game. 25 years since we had a chance to play for a spot in the big game. We are not America’s team. We are Just above the Lions, Skins, Browns.
My thoughts have always been that Jerry doesn’t live breathe SB’s. He had tremendous success early in ownership and has just ridden that wave since then. He is not trying to win a SB. He just doesn’t want to be 3-13. Anywhere between 7-9 to 10-6 is acceptable. Every week we should be on First take or undisputed. Hope for Sunday night flexes. He only cares about the sizzle and being in the limelight. Some will argue some will think I am crazy, but don’t trust what people say but what they do.

I have a different take on this. I think Jerry DESPERATELY wants to win another SB so that he can win outside of having Jimmy Johnson hanging over the success of the team. ‘95 might have been coached by Switzer but that obviously was Jimmy’s team and Jerry knows it. He knows this straight to his bone marrow. My take on Jerry is not his lack of passion. I honestly don’t know how anyone can see evidence for a lack of passion. It seems to me he cares IMMENSELY but, at the same time, has IMMENSE trust in his innate instincts when it comes to just about anything he has a reasonable amount of knowledge on (probably honed to a fine edge from his wildcatting days) that he prefers his opinion ultimately over most people in the room and because of this cocky, brash assurance, he’s brought in people that will work with him regarding this in the most comfortable way (for him) possible. This hasn’t produced the most conducive environment for optimal positive decision making.

Having said that, I think when he brought Parcells in, even though that relationship failed ultimately too, he at least broke with his norm. I truly believe his tenure with Garrett was because he honestly thought JG was going to bring the team to the promised land. He wasn’t keeping JG around to keep us mired in mediocrity just to keep butts in the seat and merch flying off the shelves. He knows the best way to add value to the franchise and money in his pocket is from a consistent legit SB contender out there on the field. I just can’t buy that Jerry doesn’t care or only cares enough to put an average to decent team on the field and is so apathetic about winning a SB he just ho-hums about it as long as fans are in the stadium.

Being apathetic about winning championships goes against everything we know about him and his personality. Our lack of success is rooted in other things, many of which are Jones related, but I just don’t see the lack of passion being one of them.

The problem with this argument is that Jerry Jones the businessman actually has a HOF formula off the field. The Cowboys are the most valuable sports franchise in the world. Not just the NFL.

Jerry Jones could do nothing else but run the team into the ground year after year, and the Cowboys are still worth double what the worst team in the NFL is worth.

I may not like the approach of GM/Owner with no accountability and using the Cowboys as a hobby, but I realize that Jerry Jones has been doing the NFL side of things long enough to get, hey he is not still some oil man up in the front office figuring it out as he goes and wants to prove he belongs.

It's been 30 years.. the narratives change.

The Cowboys winning a SB is a priority because that's why they play the games, but Jerry Jones the business man has figured this NFL thing out better than any other owner in the league. It's 100% the reason SB or not, he is satisfied with his work each season.

For us the fans, it doesn't matter who is calling the shots, or their motive.. I go back to the KC analogy, you can have a process and wait 50 years and keep waiting, or you can get a generational talent and all of a sudden, everyone in the front office looks like geniuses. We currently don't have any generational talents so I guess we're waiting it out right now.

That can be said for 95% of the teams in the league though. Everyone has a process and it probably, in reality, differs little from team to team. Winning a SB is HARD no matter how easy certain franchises with great coaches and great players have made it look. Given Jerry’s hyper-competitive personality I can’t buy that he’s the quintessential apathetic owner who doesn’t care. It is incongruent with Jerry’s personality, like OBVIOUSLY so.

It does not fit with what we know about him. It’s more plausible, and we have evidence for it, that he disrupts the process because he’s hyper-confident to go along with his hyper-competitiveness and ego. He wants max credit.

Has anyone else realized we are as removed from the infamous Cabo trip as that trip was removed from the last time the Cowboys won a Super Bowl?:oops:

I appreciate all of the nostalgia in this thread but I think what hit me harder was that the failure in 07 hit so hard and still feels like a fresh "wound", but it felt very removed from Super Bowl XXX. Yet the gap in time is the same.

I remember it well. I was a nice 25 year old good looking kid with all the women, all the athleticism, and now I'm just an old bald guy that needs to lose weight.

I don’t dwell in the negative. I advise you to do the same. Life sucks when you are always negative. Sucks big time.

Yeah.
... Really?
Jerry has been humping our leg for 25 years.
Just shut up and buy the Cowboys beach towel and the cowboys rearview mirror dice cubes.

Yes, but we'll all grow old and a caregiver will have to wipe our ash and then we die lonely and afraid!

I was 16 in 95. Doesn't seem that long ago, but ooooof.

My Ma sent me a picture of my Pop fishing today. Looking in the mirror at myself is already confusing, but watching the ones you love the most get old is pretty heavy.

Anyhow, win, or lose, I still enjoy the Thanksgiving games, and memories made throughout the years. At least we're not the Browns.
