Lawrence is 25 lbs heavier, he's a full time starter because he can handle the run. Gregory was, and I suspect still is, a situational pass rusher. They're not the same type of player, so you really can't compare one to the other exactly. So to say one is better than the other isn't really doable...

I did not realize there was such a weight difference. Better keep A Smith. Once dlaw got paid he can not be found...

He may be getting more double teams, or blocked with a tight end plus a tackle, or he's tasked with stopping the run first. And he is on the quarterbacks "good" side, so the quarterback can see him coming better. Smith comes from the quarterback's blind side, that's a help. I do think Lawrence's performance has dropped off, but there could be lots of reasons why he's not getting sacks and tackles for loss, etc....

Yes Lawrence is/was better on running plays than Gregory and was a starter because Gregory couldn't beat out Crawford for the other starting DE. Oh and at that time there was only a 11 pound difference not 25 pounds. Right now according what's on NFL there is just an 8 pound difference. You can try to make all the excuses you want but Gregory hasn't done anything for anyone to think he's going to be a beast. I hope he does contribute but I hold no illusion that he's a beast waiting to be let go.

Again I have to question you because when a player is said to have more bend it implies he is better suited for a 3 point stance. Also Marinelli was DC ALL four linemen were in a 3 point stance probably 98% of the time so I'm not sure where you get that Gregory did all this 2 point stance.
.
.
Bend has nothing to do with stance. It's all in how low in can get around the outside shoulder and how tight he can get on his way to the QB. RG has the arm length and measurable to be an Aldon lite this year lining up out of both stances.

Oh I would agree he's not proven to be a beast, I was just saying that he's not a starter not because he's a worse player, but his skill set is as a pass rusher, Lawrence is and has always been played as a run defender as well as pass rusher. Gregory is heavier now, according to the Cowboys website, at 255 vs Lawrence's 265, but that wasn't the case when Gregory was playing, he was listed at 240 then...

He and Aldon Smith can handle the standup OLB rush stuff that Nolan wants to run, while we can then allow Lawrence and Griffen to stay in their natural hand down rush position. Anae probably rushes from an upward stance too, right?

That's exactly what I was thinking, they have to be planning some passing sets with DLaw and Griffen in two point sets and Smith and Gregory on the outside in 3 points. Put Trysten Hill in the middle of that and you have five guys that can rush the passer.

Also every time I see "WFT" for Washington Football Team I read it as "***". Its wrong but its more fitting.

Yes! We're getting the guy back with 7 career sacks in 3 years! BEAST!!

To be fair he did not play a lot of games or snaps. In the time he was in there he did show some ability to pressure the QB, and that would be very useful. I think he will be an upgrade over Dorance Armstrong.

Speaking of which, we will see Joe Jackson Sunday, the guy I thought they should have kept over Armstrong.

I do the same thing with WFT!

Still feels appropriate.

If you can't see that randy is a handful for the opposing team in terms of being formidable against the run and great and causing pressure you have to partially impaired.
I know you're Mr. "LIKES" and "POST" but I'm not sure you're giving proper respect of what he can do for our team if he stays healthy and on the field. I completely understand
being skeptical of his off the field issues, but the man is certainly a very talented player to be able to rotate in, and to discount that with stats on sacks is incredibly short-sited.

I almost feel like he should red shirt this season. With Aldon Smith, Griffen, and Lawrence I don't think there's a ton of snaps to go around. Mayne take's Armstrong's who's played 25%.

I’m ok taking a chance on a player like Randy Gregory because when he plays you can see the talent..he stands out.

Yeah as much as hoping for on-field production I just want to see the young man get his life on track. I think he's a father now and that often gets guys to focus on what's important. Not always but sometimes. I know many people think we should have jettisoned him after his first failed drug test but kudos to the Cowboys for sticking by the kid through some tough times. I don't drink, smoke, toke, shoot up or snort and never have but I recognize that for guys to be willing to risk millions of dollars just for the pleasure of doing it it must be extremely powerful. The only thing that I would risk that kinda money for is nookie.. but since I'm married I'm not allowed to have any of that anyway! LOL
