Yeah but if Andy played the same game the Dak haters would see the defense sucks. It might open some eyes.

lol good luck with that! They will never do that. They will just say..."let's tank for Lawrence!!" These idiots are brain dead.

Bro, your thread is about replacing Dak... You know...the guys who's played out of his mind so far this season.
How so?

5 MILLIONS YARDS! played from behind!

So...if even Dak can't play with our defense...why pay him? Why not trade a top 5 QB for some picks?

Let;s see who lines up up to get Dak.

Probably should replace the RB and defense first. Neither are playing well

I don't know. Are you a "Dak is padding stats in garbage time guy?" There was no garbage time. 3 points down with 3 and a half minutes to go.

Not at all. Dak is one of the best players on the team at the moment.

I'm a "We really need to rebuild this defense from the ground up, and overpaying a QB isn't going to help that kind of guy"

They overpay Dak for the next 4 yrs......and need at least that long to build a decent defense, and keep losing in the meantime, then his next contract is up.....and he wants even more money because he has great stats? I don't see the logic. Keep a journeyman QB, build a great defense, then find your starting QB. It's all about the GM.

What banned Dak hater are you?
So I guess you like Dak but hate the rest of the team? This team is bad....we're talking historically bad. This isnt a team that is one or two players away from being good, we're talking a team that is a dozen or so players away. We should not be paying anyone on this team a positional top 5 contract including Dak. This team has more holes then what can be filled just though next years draft. Its going to take a few years. Simple mathematics will tell you while you are rebuilding you dont bog the team down with high end contracts, those are the players you want to get rid of not accumulate. Note every team that has "tanked" the last few years. First thing they do is trade, cut or let high contract players walk.
Again, you let a number of over priced players walk including letting Dak go, bring in a bus driver QB and let him play behind center on a cap friendly contract during the rebuild

Not blaming the QB but stop giving him credit for those yards he doesn't do it when it counts. It's **** yards. He throws 5 yards and because of prevent they run 15.

Dak is above average but not top 10. He can steer a good team to the playoffs but never a SB. This is not a good team.

Then it's up to the front office and the coaching staff to put a supporting cast in place that can help Dak win the SB. No matter when the yards and points are coming, the bottom line is moving the ball and scoring. The Cowboys and Dak are doing that with ease.

This is a historically bad defense so far. Dallas has scored 40, 31, and 38 points the past three weeks and needed a miracle onside kick to win just one of those games. That's not an indictment of Prescott; it's a sign of how awful the team around him- specifically the defense- is playing.

I'd start with defense.....Dalton would have the snaps from starting the remaining games. Hitting a QB in the draft even in the first picks is a lottery win. Defense backs are usually a safer choice. The key would be having Dak's money to have additional options.
I was talking past 2020.

If you were to go with Dalton past 2020, you would need to resign him. And while he signed a really cheap 1 year deal to be the backup QB, I have a hard time believing he would sign for that low to be the starting QB. You are most likely looking at something like the Bridgewater deal (~$14 million / year), if not a Fitzgerald deal (~$21 miilion / year), to sign a vet to be a starting QB.

But even with Dak's contract, we have quite a bit of spending room (~$24 million) which apparently is 6th most in the NFL.

Even then, we did not sign the following "big name" players that switched teams in 2020:
  • Jadaveon Clowney - $15 million / 1 year and sat there for 95% of free agency
  • Byron Jones - $16.5 million a year / 5 years
  • DJ Reader - $13.5 million a year / 4 years
  • Corey Littleton - $12 million a year / 3 years
  • James Bradberry - $15 million a year / 3 years
  • Dante Fowler - $16 million a year / 3 years
Which contract could the Cowboys NOT afford there because of Dak? Hell, Earl Thomas is sitting there for the taking, and NO ONE is signing him.

I think the narrative that Dallas can't afford anyone on D because of Dak is hyperbolic at best.
  • Dallas has sunk a lot of money on the D
    • Unfortunately, this was on two guys who are not doing much (DLaw) or doing almost everything wrong (Jaylon)
      • Those 2 will count ~$35 million against the cap in 2021
    • Good news, another guy who does not do much (Crawford) is scheduled to become a free agent this year, so that could free up ~$9 million in cap space
    • Everson Griffin's, who has not done much so far in 2020 but virtually everyone cried to sign, 6 million gone after the season
  • Then add the guys who can't stay healthy
  • Then about ~$10 million in dead space comes free in 2021 (Fredbeard's sudden retirement, Taco, Ha-Ha, Flemming, ect...)

So let me ask, is the issue that Dak is taking up too much cap room, or are the Cowboys spending too much money / high draft picks on defensive players that don't perform up to their contracts?

If my stance is not clear, not signing Dak is almost guaranteed to send the Cowboys to the bottom of the NFL for the foreseeable future, with or without Dalton, another Vet and/or drafted QB. Dalton is probably the worst playoff QB in NFL history, a good veteran QB is not likely to be available and as you mentioned, it takes a lot of luck drafting a QB, even really high.

I rather spend premium on a guy who is playing close to the contract then to save some money and end up paying a guy(s) to become a complete letdown and not coming close to his contract status.

The reason I am all for Tank for Lawrence is you wouldn’t have to pay Dak 40 mill a year, I’m not a Dak hater but that kind of cap hit along with all the bad contracts we have makes it almost impossible to turn this team around any time soon

nothings impossible revisit this talk after week 17... seriously its not over

we at least can drop points on people now we need to figure out how to not turn the ball over and play defense..we are not where we want to be but more like middle of the pack not worst team..there are far worse..i know this hurt's but time to get it fixed we started 3-3 in 2018 lost 2 in arrow so 3-5 and still tuned it around.. it can happen..

this staff deserves 16 games before judgement..

Jeeez....I mean I know some of us drink during the game but come on. Dak balled today. This defense came out the 2nd half and immediately gave up a TD. It took the air out of an already deflated team until the offense revived us. Would I have liked to see Dak go off in the 3rd instead of the 4th quarter...yes but he definitely wasn’t the issue.

He wouldn’t have to throw if we weren’t always behind 20 freaking points...***
