Mike McCarthy was asked what changes could be made from a personnel or coaching front on defense after Sunday’s loss. “Well, you know we’re in a scheme change from the prior scheme here and we’re not off to a good start. The worst thing we can do is narrow everything down and be a one-call defense. I refuse to do that. That’s not the path. We have a defense that fits our players, and we have to make sure we are getting those guys in position.”

yea I know but he also implied the D is impacted by scheme change, which actually bothers me a little. Hell, your season is live and kicking, and obvious the D isn't ready. You think other team care, hell no, they will show you no mercy.

it’s not even about “confusion” or complicated schemes. Our players just suck. That’s all. They’ve been in two schemes now. One that’s simple. One that’s “complex” (Nolan just sucks tho IMO). And they’re bad in both. Common denominator is our players are garbage.

Exactly what I was going to say. And that Eberflus came out of the Ryan multiples system that wasn’t supposed to be simple at all, though he obviously might have changed that up completely after leaving Dallas.

Marinelli played mostly vanilla coverages hoping his stunts would generate pressure and force turnovers. But the league has become way more advanced passing wise and his soft zones got picked apart.
There's quite an ocean of defensive schemes and plays between Marinelli's vanilla schemes and what Nolan is trying to do.

Its amusing when you think these coaches dont spend 18 hrs a day watching film and trying their best to come up with game plans and using whatever talent they have left to play..

Not sure I'll go that far but I do think we have mostly average/role players who've hit their ceilings and we're asking them to play like All-pros and the talent is just not there.
