It makes sense. We definitely don't have any identity on defense. We can't point to anything and say "We do that well". Is it coaching or is it the players? It's probably a bit of both. We've gotten on to the staff before about not utilizing players strengths and trying to mask weaknesses. It just seems we're doing random things now. I'd like a change either in scheme or coaches because we can't change all the players out mid - season. If we do nothing though we've basically insured we have a losing record.

Well... it is clear that what Nolan has done to this point ain’t working. Talk to your players— figure out what they do best, and put them in the best place to succeed.

And if that means you have to scale the playbook back this year— then you damn well better do it for the team.

I think Nolan is bad
But what makes it worse is the lack of effort from the players. They already lacked effort in Marinelli’s scheme, which was way simpler than this (so simple that anyone could figure them out). So of course, our defense could not handle the “complicatedness” of Nolan’s.

Mix low effort players, people who shouldn’t be starters, people who get paid and then dip, along with possibly the worst DC currently in the NFL, and you have a historically bad defense in your hands.

Great, we had a knucklehead run out of here not long ago due to his ridiculously complex scheme, but what the hell, maybe this time it will work.

I always took the "variable scheme" and being "complicated" as he does not know what the hell he is doing and just throwing out random schemes all game to see if something sticks. He has no plan at all. But hey it's all "variable"!!!. That will sure fool the other team. Except it doesn't. At all.

I was all about firing Rod. It was time to clean house. But I absolutely hated this hire. This dude is a bum and is worse than Rod. Firing people is just the first part. If you don't make a good hire to replace, it doesn't matter. I actually think we are worse off with Nolan than with Rod.

I got the McCarthy hire. You can sell that to me. But the Nolan hire? Absolutely did not make sense.

Richard would have been better with full control of the defense

I never got why this was not the way to go. Richard called the plays last year but under Rod's scheme and guidance. It was still Rod's defense. Everything about it was his. Richard had no real say in anything except calling plays from Rod's scheme week to week. If he fails, oh well. Nolan had 0% chance of working. He is a spare coach from the Saints LB tree, who is yearly one of the worst units.
