My take on this: prefacing his comment with, “this is the NFL” indicates that effort is somehow different at this level. And, based on it being prefaced that way indicates to me that he is just repeating what he heard from veteran player(s) when he first came into the league. Now that he is a veteran he is just passing on that veteran “wisdom”. And that attitude permeates the team and is why this franchise is mired In mediocrity. There are a few players who give their all on every play, but there are too few of those to make up for the number who take too many plays off. I’d love to hear Cliff Harris’ or Darren Woodson’s take on Woods’ statement.

Woods is not wrong per say but that is not the thing you say out loud. I have heard even all pro players say that they take a few plays off to rest or that they could probably be a step faster but if they go all out every play then their bodies will not last the season so I get taking care of the body, but that is not a thing you say out loud.

He said something stupid... Bet he regrets it now,, these young kids, its a revolving door learning process, and the end lesson is just to keep your moth shut.
If nobody hears how stupid you sound they will never call you stupid...lol
Nothing gets swept under the rug, esp if your a Dallas Cowboy,, everything that leaves your lips gets magnified 10 fold...
So just keep your moth shut, its not like your Jamal Adams that commands an audience.

McCarthy should send a message and bench him for someone who actually try on every play. It seems the D didn't go 100% on OBJs game winning td all on the same play.

People piling on this kid for giving an honest answer to a question need to go buy a clue. Woods said nothing about not trying on some plays. In fact he went out of his way to say that you go as hard as you can.. but the simple reality is that when you get gassed it doesn't matter how hard you try it's still not going to be full speed. I cannot believe anybody who has ever competed at any level doesn't understand that. But maybe I'm wrong. Just for giggles I would like one of you to go out and run 70 40 yard sprints and time each one. And then tell me how many it took before you could no longer come within a second of that first one. 4? 5? 10? No matter how great a shape you think you are in eventually your performance WILL fall off. This is stupid thing to attack an athlete on. But that's nothing new here now is it.

Okay, so when Dallas continues to suck and not go to the Super Bowl do not ask why that is.

lol..has nothing to do with giving a 100% a 100% of the time. because nobody is doing that.

Amazing. They play at full speed about 10-15 minutes in a full game, they can't go all out for that much amount of time? Ridiculous.

No, they can't. Have wrestlers have to give maximum effort for 2 minutes.. 120 seconds.. for 3 rounds.. and are completely gassed at the end of it. A total of 6 stinkin minutes and they are spent.. Whether people recognize it or not football is hard. Nobody can go full speed for 70-80 snaps so let's can that noise. You can give maximum effort but eventually you WILL slow down and idiots watching at home will claim you are doggin it.

name 1 player or person that give full effort 100% of the time. it isn't possible. y'all want the players to answer questions honestly, then when they do, y'all pounce.

Never saw Irvin taking downs off.

Of course he actually cared about stuff like winning, not these divas we have now on the team.

He is making $2.17M this year! Do you make that? Do any of us make that? To play a game....16 games....that is $135K a game.....and he can't give full effort for 16 total hours? Give me a f-ing break.
I can only speak for myself.

Did both. Big difference between the two. Of all of the sports except for baseball I think football is by far the easiest to play for someone that is young and in shape. In regards to being winded that is. You get way more rest than play time. More so for NFL players. But again, you have to be in shape.

Of the sports I can think of that tire you out, and I'm probably missing a few. You mentioned one, Wrestling, that can be wicked. Boxing, full court basketball, hockey, certain positions in soccer. But football? I didn't think it was possible to get spent playing that sport. Tennis and half court basketball is more tiring. But then again, if all you do is play video games all year long until football season, yeah, I can it being a problem for some players.

We are so personnel depleted we can't afford to bench Woods. But hey maybe the defense will rally to hold a slumber party at midfield during half time against the Giants.
