Hard to say it depends on the injury. It could be a 6-8 week recovery a 6-8 month recovery or even a 16-18 month recovery. No way does any team pay Dak until he can prove he is football ready again.

Dak bet on himself and, unfortunately, just lost. No way the Jones' offer a penny more than their last offer, maybe less.

JJ failed this man.
I think Francis failed him more than Jerry did. Jerry offered a deal worth 35 million a year and 100 million up front. Anyone who tells another person to turn down a 100 million dollar check should be fired. 4 or 5 years on a contract is nothing right now as Dak goes into surgery. I wish Dak would have taken the deal that was offered. Now more than ever I wish he took it cuz he would be taken care of and his mind would be at peace on the financial aspect and he could just focus on recovering.

I hate Jerry Jones, I mean I really hate Jerry Jones, but Francis is the real villain here if Dak's career is over. Hopefully he will recover and play at a high level again.

He’s going to be on a one year deal again. A multi-year means he will be getting a discount.
No way in hell. The optics if they to franchise him again would be awful. He either gets his deal or moves on.

it all depends on how Dallas does without him. Open market, plays for Jacksonville, out of the league within a couple years, then yes he lost a fortune.

If Dallas needs him, then he still gets paid, and probably has some success and longevity.

If Dallas does fine without him, open market and he could go to a horrible org.

Nobody thought Alex Smith’s injury was as severe as it turned out to be right away. Very presumptuous to assume anything at this point.

That isn't necessarily because of the injury either though. I assume with the way this season will be, no one will probably get what they want, or would have at any other time.

JJ failed this man.
Jerry surrounded him with all the talent in the world. Offered him a contract in the top 5 range. Dallas has been terrible in one possession games the last year and a half. A lot of that falls on the QB. Top 5 qbs should be above 500 in one possession games.

Of course it will hurt Dak. I don't see the cowboys even offering a contract next year, see an incoming franchise tag again. He'll be on another prove it season while Steven is out looking for a replacement.
Another franchise tag would be a win for Dak. That being said I don't think Dak has really lost much as long as the injury doesn't have complications. If the Cowboys don't offer a deal I think he can still get a deal in the neighborhood of $35 million a year, and I think other teams will be more willing to give Dak the shorter deal he was looking to get. Otoh, maybe the injury will make Dak more amicable to a longterm deal.

Dak bet on himself he turned down a four year deal worth an estimted 120+ million most of which was garanteed, Dak bet he would not have a serious injury and play well. How many millions did he just loose ? And if Andy Dalton plays well could this be the end of Prescott in Dallas ?
Dak won’t get the 40 million he was looking for no matter what. We just have to wait to hear if he will be completely healthy for next season. My guess is the contract that he was offered at the deadline. It was a mistake not to sign it.

Dak will lose next to nothing IMO. Just going off his character and work ethic I think he will make as close to a full recovery as possible. He was never a serious run threat but he has always been dangerous in that area. Medically when he gets back next season I don’t think his pocket game will be effected much if any. The worst I expect will be knocking the rust off but his work ethic will make that easier.

As far as competition from Dalton, that part could potentially hurt him just by the fact that there will not be much of a drop off from a pure pocket passing perspective. The problem Dalton will have is that he will be more dependent on the offensive line and he won’t be able to cover for the poor blocking the way Dak did. If anything I am worried Dalton won’t make it through this season healthy. Dalton will probably lose more money than Dak when all is said and done.

Only way I see Dak losing a fortune is if the Cowboys finish so bad that they end up with a top 3 draft pick and at that point it would be too hard to pass on the opportunity to get one of the best QB’s in the draft. How that would work itself out is anyone’s guess. I would think another franchise tag is very possible while the new QB is learning from the bench in that scenario.

This in no way threatens Dak's status as the team leader.....the only this does/impact is probably STOPS his value from escalating pass $37M ( the price of 2nd tag ). A deep playoff run would have no doubt put him $40M+ but no chance of that now.

Dak gambled. This is a game of devastating injuries that can happen on any play at any time. I thought he should have signed for that reason. I don’t know who was driving the strategy, Dak or his agent, but they gambled and it’s possibly going to cost him.
