Gallup versus Cooper

As Romo pointed out, Gallup runs more go-routes than any WR in the NFL. He basically said we have significant match-up problems that we could exploit, running the ball and then attacking down field. Interestingly, Kyle has the following numbers on Twitter:

This idea he can replace Cooper is utterly asinine. While he’s no doubt demonstrating himself as a threat, schematically he’s getting all the advantage because of teams focusing on Cooper. He is getting all these one-on-one matches and his route tree is extremely limited. Giving the money Cooper’s contract to him is just dumb at this stage and it’s pretty much the Dak-stans, when they need to look for another scapegoat, they come up with Cooper..

With our three WRs and running game to boot, this is a QBs dream.

I'd take gallup over cooper any day...and what was up with him today, hardly even played,is he still hurt... again

Need to give to get.

Gotta trade one of these max contracts: Tank, Amari, Zeke or Zack

Not trading either Zeke or Zack.

I wouldn’t.. Cooper is arguably the best route runner in the NFL. Teams game-plan for him. When the Colts doubled him two years back, they completely shut us out. No team doubles Gallup.

I’m not saying he’s not a beast, he’s great at what he does, he’s got legit speed, but he hasn’t demonstrated any versatility and he’s getting significant advantages for himself schematically because of what the defenses have to defend.

Dallas had an out with Tank and Jaylon after 2021, based on how I understand the contracts.

I’ve seen Cooper being led by Dak, multiple times, setting him up to get his head taken off and if if we were the 90s when the DBs and safeties could lead with the head and launch themselves off the ground, meaning could spear, he’d already have like 8 concussions.

CD is playing from the slot.. I’d rather put Lamb on the outside with Cooper, before doing that.
You use Lamb like AZ used Fitz. Outside on 2 wr sets, slot and movement and set plays when 3 or more. Get him targets.

Sorry Cowboy brother,he disappears to much for my liking..how many catches did he have today? Everytime I saw him,he was standing on the sidelines..and that happens alot, imo

You can do the same with Cooper. The one time they ran him from the slot against the Rams in the play-offs a couple years back, it was a TD. Cooper is a beast.

It isnt a decision we have to make for another two years anyways. Cooper may even be cheaper to keep. He will likely be willing to renegotiate his contract when his guarenteed has been paid out. He will likely be willing to lower his cap hit for more guaranteed money after 2021.

You could see a scenario where Gallup would cost 18 per year, but with a reworked deal Cooper would cost 17

He had his chance twice. Before the Cooper trade he couldn't be a number one. when Cooper was out last year he didn't take advantage. Don't make him out to be more than he is, a good no.2. It's amazing how dumb some people can be. Critical thinking seems to be a gift a handful of us have. Cooper draws the best corner every week and still puts up the same or better numbers. The only other receiver on this team with no. 1 recover talent is Lamb.

I believe we can cut Cooper after next season with no cap hit. That time line lines up with Gallup's contract. I wouldn't be surprised if after 2021 Cooper is cut and we go forward with Gallup and Lamb.

You almost had me and then questioned his route tree. Gallup can run every single route at a high level. Just because he's asked to run one more frequently, and is exceptionally good at it, does not by any stretch of imagination mean he can't run the full route tree. In fact, he's also tremdous catching short hitches and breaking the first tackle or making him miss.

I didn’t say he can’t run the routes. I’ve never personally seen him run a wide variety of routes and he’s getting significant match-up advantages being isolated on DBs so much one on one. The reality is And the short hitch is not all the routes and Gallup is not utilized in many different route trees. Maybe he can, maybe he can’t. He hasn’t demonstrated it yet at all
