It still boggles the mind that, going into yesterday, the Cowboys had only taken 7 offensive snaps with a lead all season.
Yesterday, they didn't add many to that.
As is custom, the Cowboys came out gangbusters for the other team again. Bam, down 17-3 before the nachos got cold. Bad defense, an ugly turnover, another red zone failure. Only to be topped later with 12 men on the field and a flat-footed failure to stop a fake field goal that only got wiped because former Cowboy Cameron Erving could get his fat butt set. The middle of the defense remains a sieve against the run, and any QB can light up this secondary.
The Giants looked like a reasonable football team yesterday. They are not. They are staring at 0-16 in a battle with their home field bunkmates for Trevor Lawrence in six months.
A bit of help is on the way with guys soon to come off IR, but the Cowboys are adding them back on in droves. McCoy, Jarwin, Collins, Tyron, Hill, and now Dak. Not to mention the offseason losses of Frederick, Jones, Witten, Heath, Cobb, Quinn, etc. This is a very different group these days.
Andy Dalton will play well, but the end result won't change with the litany of catastrophe across this roster. They'll need to reshuffle the offensive line to suit Dalton because he's more of a pocket passer and not a runner anymore like he used to be. Kick Martin out to right tackle so hopefully Dalton can step up in the pocket and not worry about the edges quite as much.
Dak's injury is serving as a reprieve for McCarthy, Nolan, and Fassel, which it should not. Those guys are not preparing this team to play on Sundays anywhere near the level that Garrett did. Say what you want about Garrett's in-game issues, but at least the team played hard every Sunday and seemed ready for the opening kickoff.
These clowns are not doing their coaching jobs. This week will be a prime example of what good coaching is or is not. Weeks like this are made for coaches. Dalton won't be watching from side at practice this week, and he's got plenty of moxie to move the ball. We'll see if the Cowboys look ready next game.
Dak is going to be fine in a few months, and will likely be franchised again, this time for $38 milllion. He's in good shape earning $70 million in two seasons on top of what he made before. Those ripping Jerry for "not paying him" are laughable financial D- students.
Strangely enough, the Cowboys are still the favorite to win the dumpster division. In fact, you could argue that they STILL have the best quarterback in the lowly East. Apocalyptic times in this once great division.
The Cowboys should be 0-5. If Julio catches the ball or the Falcons don't go brain dead on an onsides kick. If Erving can stay still on a fake FG. If not for a very questionable pick call on the Giants.
But they're not 0-5. They're in first place at 2-3. LOL
2020 continues to show no mercy.
