One we gather ourselves from all of the emotions from Sunday’s game we find ourselves back in 1st place with an important win.

We held ourselves together for a game winning drive . A loss might have sealed a losing season.

While both of our wins are against 0-5 teams our 3 losses are against two 4-1 teams and one 5-0 team. And everyone in our division continues losing.

The season is still on. We have a backup QB who has a proven starting record . Something we didn’t have in those 2010 and 2015 seasons when our QB went down ending in losing records.

We have much talent in supporting cast to help elevate him like we witnessed on our last possession. We can lean more on Elliott and the rushing game controlling time of possession limiting our defenses exposure.

And if we can take care of business at least against the more winnable games in our division we can still control our own destiny.

This is the first time in the last couple decades since the 5-11 years I don’t feel our season is over after losing our starting QB with how we closed this game out. Being in the worst division in NFL certainly helps . The season appears to be still on in 1st place after a badly needed win.

Here is the deal come up. Yes the defense still looked bad, however it looks just a little improved. Was that partly because Brown has returned to give the secondary just a little help.
When we get LVE, Lee, Awuzie back and if the D improves even more. I can see it now. Dalton will have a better D to work with than Dak had. So oh boy........
Anyway Andy will need that help as Dak could have used it also.

We are going to get a 3 game stretch here now that we should have a chance to win al games until we run into Pittsburgh and get crushed.

Steelers was not all that impressive against the Eagles or any other team so far. They beat up on weak teams and barely beat the Iggles.

This backup QB with a proven starting record didn't look so hot the last 4 years in Cincy. Last year, he stunk up the joint when under pressure.

Let's hope this makeshift Oline holds up and starts performing better. If not, it's going to be a long season. Dalton is a pocket QB. Opposing D-coordinators know this. Expect opposing Defenses to bring the heat early and often. We'll soon find out how good of a backup Andy Dalton will be for this team. Hope he's able to step up.

Here is some other things what this win meant. Overall though right now, not a whole lot.

But stat wise it is.

http://www.playoffstatus.com/nfl/cowboyswhatif.html
last week these numbers were way down, now they look better, especially with the either 3 NFCE teams losing.
Now at 52% chance of no playoffs.

Here is a different look at all the teams.
http://www.playoffstatus.com/nfl/nfcstandings.html

Also for the tanker fans, we were picking around 14th in the draft, but by leading the division, that puts us at 19. The last team to qualify for a playoff spot as of now.
Though someone started a thread earlier in the week, showing we were current 5th at 1-3, but that was current. This link takes projected schedules.

http://www.playoffstatus.com/nfl/nfldraftorder.html

this still shows us at 14th. as it is based on the records, not what teams currently qualify for the playoffs.

Pitt is heavily overrated. The eagles were giving them all they could handle, they almost lost to a backup at denver, etc.
Im not saying we'll win but still

overated maybe but not heavily overrated, their defense is legit and they are a very talented team overall.

a team clearly heads and tails above us at this point

Our best defense moving forward is winning the TOP.
My fear is that Zeke isn't that back from 2016-17(pre suspension) who could make a guy miss and break off a nice run. AND, our offensive line isn't that badass line where the defense knew it was a run but couldn't break through.

Regardless , it’s the most proven backup we’ve had in this era when we’ve lost our starting QB to injury for the season like in 2010 and 2015. And it provides more hope like we saw on the his final winning drive.

Yes, very true. Andy Dalton is way much better than Cooper Rush or any previous backup QBs in recent years. Hope our Oline gels, our rushing attack improves and our D plays better. It was good to see everyone truly step it up right after Dak's injury. Ironically, probably what was needed to get everyone to play harder with more determination.

The combined record of the teams Pittsburgh has beat is 3-15-1, and they haven't run away with any of the games, so are they really that good, or the beneficiaries of some really weak opponents?

I'd hardly call this the worst division I've ever seen. There have been numerous years in my lifetime where the NFC South and NFC West were moribund.

Carolina won a division at 7-8-1. You've got 3 teams here that made coaching changes with hardly no off-season and another team just void of much talent.

I think the finish will be more competitive than the start.

Good question. All you can do is beat the teams on your schedule.

Like looking at our schedule we are 0-3 against two 4-1 teams and one 5-0. While both of our wins are against 0-5 teams.

Seems I’ve seen this once today so far
