I am still perplexed why they don't bring in a DT

Losing Hill was a big blow. Now they are rolling with Crawford, who isn't all that good and Gallimore, who is raw.

I'd call Dareus and see if he wants to come in and try out. Sure, he's not a 3T but at this point, we need bodies at DT. Poe is dreadful as well so I might even consider bringing Snacks in and if he shows anything, cut Poe.

MM and Stevie aren't exactly football geniuses.

Probably because he likes where he is. He has already turned down other teams to stay with Seattle.

You are correct... I had not realized he signed.

Well... I suppose we run with what we have. Now we can find out if Gallimore is a player earlier than anticipated, possibly the same with Anae as he'll likely see more snaps now

Because there is no one out there that is going to make the impact you want. These guys aren't like legos that you can grab and just plug in and get ready to go.

All I know is the next time a 30 year old defensive lineman comes to Jerry and the bargain hunter kid for one last pay day, I'm not gonna be either impressed or fooled.

This whole rely on the draft and 3rd/4th contract guys only isnt working.

They need to sign impact free agents as well....like every other team does.

Ok. Timeout. What am I missing on Trysten Hill? Why is he this OMG what a big blow loss? The dude is very much a part of a terrible defensive line. He's got no sacks, 1 tackle for loss and he's an awful run defender. Yet everyone's in mourning that he's gone down.

Because he passed the very low bar of getting his shoulder pads on and getting into a stance. Most people didn't think he was capable of that.

In reality, he has a lot of difficulty anchoring, and when he does flash from time to time with penetration, and shows good hustle, he has been part of the problem in the opposing offensive linemen getting to the second level and blocking the linebackers. Even if he were not injured, in no way does his play lessen the need to add talent at the position. And multiple pieces at that.

I am speaking relatively here. I am not saying we lost Aaron Donald here. But in the dreck that is our DT rotation, Hill was playing the best. So in that sense, we lost our best interior player to date. You ready for Tyrone Crawford to now start and eat up snaps? I am not.

If Justin Hamilton is a pass rushing DT, then bring him up. Play Gallimore more. I doubt there are many options available, or we would have been talking about them more.

But Snacks doesn't help for pass rush DT.

They may poach someone off someone's team but I wouldn't look for them to sign a veteran. I don't know why the are taking this approach. Only thing I can think of is that maybe its cap related.....I just don't get if you have money why not spend it I get not locking guys up long term but on a one year deal I don't understand.
Maybe they internally know/think they just aren't a SB team this year and that the cap is going to take some sort of hit so just tread water right now.

Guys you could bring in now would likely have a minimal negative effect on the cap. Harrison is making peanuts in Seattle right now.

We have seen this before. The Jones' tend to overvalue what they have, even back ups.

Goes to show how bad their depth is if he was playing all throw downs. That means the guy behind him must really suck.

Its not even hubris or arrogance anymore ,its just plain indifference.FO has ignored the DT position for more than a decade ,they just dont get how good DTs make your edge rushers so much more better. How many times did the Giants QB escape our rush by just stepping up into a wide open pocket?

Yeah. I was just kind of throwing a not-well-thought-out idea into the ether that hit my brain on the fly.

I mean they’ve spent 2nd , 3rd round picks. The 1st round DT hasn’t been there.
Chris Jones disagrees w/ you. As does Brockers, Fletcher Cox, Eddie Goldman, and Kawann Short.

Honestly, I'm surprised you fell for that line this org is always feeding us.

Based on an imminent need the FO traded away a premium pick for Cooper, they don't appear to be nearly as prudent regarding the DT/NT positions. Immediately after the Browns game they should spend every waking moment trying to trade/aquire a bonafide 1 tech at the very least. Cooper wasn't worth the 1st round pick nor the 20MM extension but he's here so we know if the desire is there they'll be willing to overpay for another teams headache.

is Dareus another Poe...bunch of people here swore by Poe and how much better he was going to be than Malik Collins......so far results don't back that up

and given we are not one street FA wo nobody wanted to sign, away from becoming a good defense, might as well roll with Gallimore....

They're playing different positions - Poe is the 1T/NT and Collins is a 3T. Poe replaced Woods as the starter.

The absence if even worse that Marinelli as Nolan needs a couple fatties in the middle. Which we don't have.
