He wanted a year deal in the neighborhood (or very slightly above) what Goff and Wentz got. Was that really so unreasonable?
Turning down 175 million dollars...yeah...I wish I had this problem. Lol....he got what he deserved for being greedy. I seriously don't feel bad for the guy...he was never that good to begin with.

The poster I responded to was saying he would have been okay signing Dak if in the neighborhood of Goff and Wentz - that was the context, and in that context my response was on topic and yours is not. The fact that it is a lot of money does not change the fact it was an asking price in the neighborhood of Goff and Wentz.

The Cowboys' offer to Prescott over the summer included a $50 million signing bonus and around $110 million guaranteed, but the length of the deal was a sticking point. The Cowboys wanted a five-year deal, while Prescott was seeking four.

now it's to late.

SHOULD OF, COULD OF, we can play this game all day long. Dak's down fall was hiring an agent who put greed ahead of Dak's best interest. I realize Dak has the last say in contract talks but when you have a devil on each shoulder common sense has no ability to chirp in.

I find this to be one of the most tasteless threads ever. It seems there are a great number of people who sit here behind a computer screen acting either like they know better, or are just selfish arseholes with no tact. Here is a guy that loves this team as much as any poster here. He was trying to win a game, one that was desperately needed.

He gets injured and all some people will post is negative comments about him and glee that he is no longer playing this year.

I'm telling you, if all you people were lined up together and set afire. I would not wring the sweat from my marbles to douse your flames, you bunch of heartless jack wagons.

Had Dak signed that $150M with $75-100M guaranteed and then got injured, the fan base and media would be ripping to shreds Jerry and Stephen for screwing the cap and team for the next 3 years. Also, same media and fan base would be bad-mouthing Dak for screwing the cap and team with his greed.

Jerry can take care of Dak outside of the cap if he so desires. Jerry can give Dak $20M/year as an assistant coach if he wants to. He has the money. Jerry paid Justin Timberlake $5-10M to sing at his Hall of Fame party.

By all accounts Jerry offered Dak a 5 yr contract for 35 mill per year.

Jerry owes him nothing!

France on the other hand should be disqualified as an agent for his performance!

If you believe that then by extension you have to believe it was wrong to fire Garrett because 8-8 with a QB who is not very good is actually very good for a coach to do in the NFL.

Also Dak will have lost nothing. Worst case for him the team franchises him another year and this song and dance happens once more. He already put out good enough numbers to justify a huge payday so there would be no shortage of teams bidding once he gets cleared by doctors. QBs on that level always get paid and an injury like that, while brutal, will not deter teams from paying.

so he lowballed the deal based on what the market clearly shows QB contracts are....

Nope- 35 mill was never a lowball under any circumstance- thats crazy

Watson just signed 40m. There is no metric or observable detail that makes Watson look significantly better than Dak therefore 35m is a lowball offer when 40 is the market.

Agents advise. Dak made the final decision. We don't know what the agent was advising. We do know Dak has final say.

I'm more concerned with his recovery. The money issues will work themselves out next year.

40 was not the market for a QB who hand he signed after Mahommes.

Daks offer was better than Mahommes for the first few years

Considering it was reported that Dak contacted Stephen in the eleventh hour before the deadline it seems a bit obvious to me - but I could be wrong.

First 3 years of Mahomes new deal from a cap perspective (that contract is weird so its the easiest way to break it down is by yearly cap hit) are 31.5 million, 42.5 million, 39.9 million so no that is not an accurate description of Mahomes new deal.

Dak really hasn't lost anything yet. At a minimum the Cowboys will franchise him again. Otherwise he is a free agent and some team will give him a contract in the neighborhood of $35 million a year, even if it's just for one or two years. Then he would come up for a new contract right when the new tv money hits and salaries jump up, which is what he's wanted from the beginning. That's assuming he recovers and can play. If that isn't the case he will get to cash out his insurance and retire.
