A Sean Lee type of guy might do wonders as a true coach. Great mind. look at what the Tennessee head coach is doing for that team. (Vrabel)

Vrabel has the advantage of playing under Belichick.

If we dump Nolan now, Lee would be the top of my list. Knows the existing system and players. Audition him for next year.

But with *no* coaching experience, I wouldn't turn over the defense to him next year. But maybe they've seen enough of him in meetings to feel confident.

Do people really not remember how AWFUL of a def coordinator that Zimmer was here? Really?

:facepalm::facepalm::facepalm::facepalm::facepalm:

Zimmer was the king of suck as a def coordinator here. Oh my gosh. Please everyone pull your heads out of your backsides!

His 2003 Cowboys defense gave up the fewest yards in the league that year.

He was also the DC for several top 10 Bengals defenses.

But sure.

..Mike Zimmer.

Because I'm pretty sure he's getting fired.

For the record, I still want Gus Bradley, but would be thrilled with Zimmer.
Why hire Zimmer when George Edwards is already on staff, runs the same defense and has had just as much success as Zimmer doing so?

But sure.
Yards given up is a less desirable stat to rank defenses.
Points given up is a better measure of defenses.

As d coordinator in Dallas......Zimmer ranked from the 20th to 30th worst defense in points allowed 4 times in 7 years.
FOUR times! He only broke the top ten once in those seven years.

Like I said. In Dallas as d coordinator..... Zimmer sucked.

But sure.

It's going to be John Stephen Jones next year as a defensive coach in training next year.

Zimmer just signed an extension in the off-season, he isn't getting fired. The Vikings team was expected to have a transition year as they had to shed a lot of contracts due to cap concerns.

Zimmer will land another HC job he has not failed as HC to be thrown in the "He is only a coordinator candidate" pile

And he’d be welcomed back, with open arms. Tacitly acknowledging that the quality of the coaching wasn’t an issue back when GROZ had the torches and pitchforks out.

But I wouldn’t be there, saying “I told you so, but y’all wouldn’t listen!” Because I’m totally above that sort of thing.

But I did tell all y’all so, and you wouldn’t listen. For the record. It’s like a trend, or something.

We could probably pry Butch Davis away from FIU. Maybe Wannstedt wants to get back into coaching.

I agree with finding a young-ish DC that has some innovation. Easier said than done, I know.

I respect your posts and knowledge quite a bit.

We touched on this a bit yesterday....

If Nolan was let go and Zimmer was brought in...that would be a clear Jerry move, and a serious undermining of his HC the way I see it.

It's not secret that Nolan isnt the answer, but do you think Zimmer would be enough of a difference maker where it would be worth clipping the wings of MM?

Heck I'd rather just go with Zimmer as HC tbh, but I doubt Jerry will pull the plug so soon. The excuses are firmly in place.

Mike Zimmer is just the defense version of Jason Garrett.

With Zimmer's defense to really work, he needs a stud D-Line with three top notch passrushers (2 DEs and DT) and a big-boy runstuffer. If he doesn't have a stud D-Line, he better have a stud group of LBs to keep it all from falling apart.

All of that describes the Cowboys defensive personnel how?

Just askin' .... for a friend ....

First I love Zimm, but your correct his defense is built alot like.......old man river who just left town under torch and pitchfork......minus the run stuff DT the old man wanted 4 stud pass rushers..because you know all teams get that nowawadays

wait, are you telling us that @Dre11 is actually Jerry Jones?

:muttley:

There's a gathering of either MM supporters/non supporters here that kinda fall into 3 categories imo.
Some are justifiably a wait and see before final judgment crowd, others are the anything is better than the JG crowd.
Or the even smallest group which I am in that would have preferred a different choice as HC for a variety of reasons.

Go Cowboys

Doubt Mike Zimmer would want to come back even if the Cowboys were interested. He wasn't interested when Garrett was fired and I believe he made an off the record comment quoted by a well known reporter that implied he had done his time there and that was enough...
