Here's a thought that those that want to draft a QB to replace Prescott haven't thought of. Even if the Cowboys don't win another game, but they will, and end up with the top 2 - 4 pick in the draft, and remembering that Jerry, Stephen and McCarthy have said repeatedly that Prescott is their QB of the future, the Cowboys could trade that pick and get a couple of 1st rounders to spend on the defense.

There's no way Lawrence is coming into this league and averaging 40 points a game, which is what it will take for him to win games with this defense. What is likely to happen is with how disorganized this franchise is and the poor o-line, he gets out there, gets battered, and we possibly ruin his confidence.

Jets, Giants, Washington, Jags, or Atlanta will land Trevor early.
Needs:
S
LB
OT
DL
QB
TE

Not too many Safety free agents next year. There are a few LB and OT hitting the market. Need to address defensive backfield the draft for sure.

I am not saying I don't like Dak because I do, imo I think Lawrence is better qb and I do not think he would be a bust. With that being said I do not think we have chance of even getting him. I did hear some rumors on talk radio that if the Jets have the first pick that Lawrence may stay in school ala Peyton Manning.

I don't know if Lawrence will be a bust or not but I do know that people that are paid to give their assessments of college QB's have praised some that turned out to be busts. They're not limited to just QB's but have been wrong with every other positions too. Selecting all college players has some risk involved. I just don't get how some think a college player with zero snaps in the NFL is going to be better than what the Cowboys have. Prescott who has set several NFL records is not better than a QB that has zero snaps in the NFL?

We. Don’t. Need. A. QB. That would be a complete waste of a pick. It would be 2020 all over again. Lawrence or Fields would play behind a injury infested O-line, and with another historically bad defense. We need:

DT, Safety, Cornerback, O-linemen (Not sure if we should get a LT just in case Tyron goes down or retires, or a Guard), LB, maybe DE, and a kicker and punter.
Leave the offense alone, besides maybe trying to bring in a newer OC with a good resume.
Do you say the same thing about Cee Dee? just wondering.

Not really. I'm a big Dak supporter, but if you have the chance at a QB like Lawrence you take it and don't look back.

#1 pick has a QB has a cap hit of around $6-$8mil while Dak's hit is going to be upwards of $36 mil.

You can fill a lot of holes with $30 mil of space.
Remember in 3 years a random cowboyszone poster said this

“Trevor Lawerence will NEVER be a great quarterback in the NFL. His ceiling is Carson Wentz

The first two picks will be starters.

But that's all the help we will get because the kid doesnt believe in signing decent free agents.

Only guys looking for a last paycheck.

Funny how you get what you pay for.

Well, maybe by then Reggie Robinson will be ready to put a uniform on.

All three of our division opponents are ahead of us in the race, including the Giants who we already gave a loss to. So we're barely in the race. Even if we lose out the rest of the season, strong chance we don't finish last in the division, much less finish behind the Jets and Falcons and whoever else is God-awful like us.

It would be hilariously on-brand for us to have this historically bad defense and be pinning our hopes on picking an offensive player at the top of the draft, though. That's so us.

Division is such garbage that 5-11, dare I say 4-12, wins the Least.
How bout that? Finish 4-12 and win your division, one and done and your draft pick is 20th or below.
This is not entirely impossible. Maybe not likely but not as farfetched as many may think.

The Cowboys can't out tank the Jets unfortunately for a full personnel re-boot.

Continue on with band aid management and grossly incompetent contract writing and coaching choices.

The Cowboy Way

As much as acquiring Trevor could at least be the beginning of genuine hope, the Jets appear to have an iron clad 2 game lead that they are not gonna relinquish unfortunately. (meaning a strong 0-16 possibility.)

The Giants have Jason Garrett on the staff. He is notorious for messing up draft position.

I guess some of y'all need to keep the Clemson Barbie dream alive because false hope is better than no hope.

Dallas won't have the #1 pick.
Even if they did there's no guarantee Jerry would take him. That would really be a kick in the head. :muttley:

The only way the Cowboys get a shot at Lawrence is to out trade another team because they will be lining up for him. And we haven't seen Fields yet this season and Lance at North Dakota is making a case for himself in that top 3 area.

There is 1 0 win team and 9 1 win teams ahead of the Cowboys right now and only 4 of those 10, CIN, HOU, LAC and PHL aren't in line for 1 of those 3 QB's.

That said, frim what I've seen of the Cowboys heart and play, I have every confidence that they can improve on that draft position.

No point in paying your qb 37 million a year when we average forcing teams to punt twice a game. Makes no damn sense. Let Dak go if Justin fields is there and get him on the cheap for 5 years. Then rebuild around him. This team needs at the VERY least a complete defensive rebuild. And a couple o-lineman as well.
The money we can save by not paying Dak could be spent on being some decent defensive free agents in here and compete immediately.

No guarantee spending money on defense equals quality. Just look at DLaw after he got paid/

I mean, if we get the #1 pick, sure, take Lawrence. And I’m saying this as a Dak fan. It just makes sense.

But we’re not. The Jets are so abysmally bad, and they will take Lawrence and ruin him like Darnold.
