I agree. I was thinking a little more about this. We as fans have been enabling Jerry by saying he's a great owner and a bad GM. I've done it myself for years. But when you own a sports franchise the goal is to win games and championships. He made his millions and billions in oil and real estate. So the idea of "if he's a bad owner then why is the Cowboys the #1 sports franchise in sales and value?". Well that's because of the huge fan base and the legacy that Jerry inherited from Landry and Tex Schramm. They won games. Period. Jerry is living off of them and living off of Jimmy Johnson.

To be more exact and not make this a redundant Jerry sucks post. Jerry was an good owner under the old system. When Jerry bought the team there was no salary cap and FA. Teams were built through the draft and barring some trades here and there you had a team for a long time. Jerry and Jimmy built this team to last in the early 90's. Then FA hit in 1992. Dallas won in 92, 93, and 95. Each year the league got more into FA the Cowboys were not as good. So in 94 we were not as good as 93 and 95 was not as good as 94 even though we still won. And then we started our decent into this current state of suckage.

My point if Jerry is an old school owner that has not adjusted to the new NFL. He is built to reward players and keep a core of players around for 5-8 years. That's not how the NFL is anymore. Jerry is an old school owner who can't play by the new school/Free agency ways of the NFL. Jerry would have been a great owner in the 70's and 80's were if you pay a player too much then no big deal he just stays on your team until he retires and you can bring in other people to challenge him. Like in the 80's you had Tony Dorsett and Walker on the same team. 2 franchise RB's and you could pay them whatever you wanted. Jerry is not an owner who is football savvy enough or smart enough to produce a winning team consistently and he can not produce a championship team because he is not good enough to win in this system. At this point Jerry and his family are the worst thing for the Dallas Cowboys and are even bad for the NFL that they are owners. The NFL is better when it's signiature franchises are respectable some of the time. Jerry is bad for us and bad for the NFL. I wish he was gone. I'm not saying I want him dead so don't think that but I wish he wasn't in the NFL anymore and definitely not with us. Jerry Jones and Dan Snyder are cancerous to the NFL by what they've done to one of the best rivalries in football. These 2 owners suck so bad and their teams suck. It's disgraceful. I wish both of them were out of the NFL. The NFL would be better with them gone.

I have to disagree with one point: JJ did not ruin his brand. In fact he made it a success.

What's a real GM? Just because he is an owner doesn't mean he can't be a GM because that is exactly what he is doing. Tell Robert Kraft to get a real GM. What team has a coach as GM?

There is no such thing as a real GM. If you can do the job then you're a GM. Being good at your job is another matter. Besides, there is more wrong with the Cowboys than Jerry paying the wrong players.

I don't listen to anything Cowherd said. He is one of the least consistent commentators out there and his opinions are almost always wrong. That being said, a broken clock is right twice a day!

I have made the same comment multiple times on the forum. JJ, the owner, has turned the Cowboys into the most financially valuable sports team in the world, and has made many similar contributions to the NFL.

And, yet, JJ, the owner, continues to steadfastly support JJ, the GM,.and his doofus son SJ.

Meh. Collectively as fans most of us this forum have been saying a similar thing for years. It doesn’t take a genius to see that his record speaks for itself.

Still blows my mind that there are actual Cowboy fans out there who call this giant piece of crap a great owner! It’s kinda sad. You gotta raise the bar a little bit. Like we’re supposed to care how much money he makes? lol the definition of greatness is skewed for some!
