Would you trade a 2nd round pick for Quinnen Williams?

Keep in mind we would be trading a HIGH second round pick because of our record.
A high second round pick for an underachiever making a fair chunk of money.

Yea, I would. His cap hits for 21 and 22 would be 3.5mil and 5 mil. Not bad prices for a top 3 draft pick. And depending on when his 2020 roster bonus was paid, his cap this year for us would be under 675k

3-way trade. MIA gets Cooper, we get Williams, NYJ get MIA’s 2nd round pick that we would have gotten in the Cooper trade.

Now we have a good DT plus all our picks.

I want to know why he's available?

From what I have read the Jets are not shopping him, but they are planning a full team rebuild after this season. I think they are expecting to go winless and get the first pick. It sounds like they will trade anyone for draft picks. They aren't actively soliciting a trade for Quinnen Williams but the rumor is they would think about it if someone made a serious offer. The same rumor mill claims they would take a 2nd round pick. I find that hard to believe. Williams was the 3rd pick in the 2019 draft. He made an impact in his rookie season, so much so the Jets were willing to trade Leonard Williams for a 5th round pick. He is only 22 yrs old in the 2nd year of his rookie contract.

Would the jets deal with Stephen? They know he gave out the info on the adams talks last year and were not happy. So even if they dealt with Stephen they would probably make him pay more.

All the "No's" are shocking. Absolutely. Would instantly be our best run stopper on a team that can't stop the run and he's dirt cheap for 3 years
He's not a run stopper. That's considered his primary weakness.

Not true. Since in the Pros his run defense has been his strength

Quinnen Williams has played well with the NY Jets in 2020.
In six games, Williams has amassed two sacks, 24 tackles, and four tackles for loss which pretty much matches his numbers from last season. His 71.2 Pro Football Focus grade ranks 29th out of all interior defensive linemen and he has a top-10 run defense grade for his position as well.

He’s been good this season whether many realize it or not. And he’s doing this with essentially no help and in a 3-4 defense that doesn’t particularly suit him. It’s likely we haven’t seen the best from Quinnen Williams just yet.

And if that’s the case, it’s incredibly surprising to see no team offer even a second-round pick for him. Perhaps the Jets would simply be better served holding on to him regardless.

After all, the team needs to have some building blocks for the future. Williams is young and playing some good football right now — it would make little sense to move on.

This is different though. This is a 22 year old defensive end who’s still on his rookie deal for a few more years. You have to ask yourself if I go into next years draft will I get a player this good in the 2nd or 3rd round? This is for the future not just the now.

Yep, it would more be for '21 and '22 than '20.

You live in the area. Maybe you're not into the local sports radio.

Other than a few plays here and there, he is considered a full bust so far.

That said, it may take him time to develop and maybe NY isnt his thing....but anyone dealing for him is taking a risk, especially if the price is a second rounder....likely to be a top 5-10 one at that.

He would have to dramatically improve to be worth that price.

Theres plenty of very high picks that bust. It happens. Especially by teams like the Jets.

I think too many are falling in love with his draft status.

I live in the area, yes. If I listen to any talk radio it's usually Philly stations because they talk football. The NY stations talk baseball 24/7 365 days a year. It could be NFL week 12 at noon and they're talking Mets pitching. That's not an exaggeration. It was that exact scenario maybe 10 years ago that stopped me permanently from listening regularly. But I will listen occasionally just in case.

I purposely watched either the last Jets game or the one before that. The main reason was to see Williams in action. I focused on him alone. I didn't see much. It's not easy to focus on a DT with the way the camera shoots the game. So I really don't know. So if the Jets are willing to take a 2nd then they must consider him a bust. Not necessarily a garbage player, but a bust considering his draft position. He might be worth a 2nd if he improves. He was a beast in college.

I’d want to know what’s wrong with the kid that they’re willing to dump him already?

It's the Jets.....and Adam Gase. The Jets are a mess. Give me this kid....especially for a 2nd. Ask yourself this.....if he was in the 2021 draft where does he get selected? Probably still top 10...there isn't that many good DTs in the upcoming draft. Make this deal if you can.

I mean they are one of the worst franchises in football, maybe bc they’re blowing the whole thing up. Are we going to get a DT in the 2nd round better than Quinnen Williams? Probably not. In the first? I doubt it. He’s just one year removed from being a rookie
