I stated this in another thread. Even if the Cowboys can turn this around on defense, we may be able to win the NFC east because it’s so bad, but we have no shot at the SB with this OLine and Andy Dalton. I will always root for the Cowboys to win, but honestly, the best thing that can happen is for them to get a top 10 pick and draft a STUD defensive player. They would also have high picks in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th rounds plus the comp picks to rebuild this defense with young talent on rookie contracts. This will be needed with Daks new deal. Next year, Dak, Collins, Tyron and Jarwin come back, biadazz and lamb have a year of experience and our offense will be as explosive as ever. We need to rebuild this defense through the draft and a top 10 pick in each round will make that possible.

Dalton knows he needs to get rid of the ball quickly.

They need some sort of a running game.

Too many 3rd and longs are going to result in Nooch playing next week.

No one wants that yet....not even Nooch.

my thought is can we get someone in here that can do a faster rebuild than average?...like draft well and get good free agents...but i think we have too many bad contracts that hinder getting good free agents....but a really good GM
can make it work in my humlbe opinion

Agree on the higher the picks the better chance part.
Not sure on if an LT, Reggie White or Deion type impact d player will be available in this draft though...
Left Tackle maybe?

All my remaining issues with Dak signing/not signing and the albatross contracts of the current underperformers are of equal or more importance as well imo.

And then that last little element...

Coaching

I've posted enough on it and since you did not mention it, I won't dead horse it here.

Dalton needs to play a much more disciplined game. Knowing he will get no protection he needs to be ready to throw the ball away rather than taking sacks.

Honestly, I don't think we can. We need the Defense to play at least average so we don't let them pin their ears back and come after Dalton and Zeke needs to show what he is made of. It was embarrassing that last week after having fumble problems already this year that he put the ball on the ground two more times. You just cannot play a RB that fumbles

Washington defensive line is a pin your ears back and go all out to the QB and forget about any runs

You can run on them all you want there will be lanes there and if we craft a gameplan around misdirection running and draw plays Elliott can get 150 against these guys

now if we go out there and try to toss it 50 times or turn it over and go down early we’ll lose this game by atleast 20........you can’t let them get in position to do the only thing on defense they are good at and thats all out rushing

Sorry to say, all things considered this team has a very low chance of beating anybody at all, including the football team from Washington. The Cowboys will make them look like super bowl contenders.

Good post. Those screens really haven't worked at all and it does seem like the other teams know it's coming. Is it just bad blocking or are the Cowboys telegraphing the play in some way? I'll admit that I don't watch much NFL other than the Cowboys but it seems to be an effective play. Maybe it's just because I'm watching it run against our D.
Well run screen plays require coordination with the OL in order to be efective.
This OL is just trying to learn how to lineup at this point, so fully functional screen plays should be dismissed at this point.

Kellen Moore to Dalton today

“Here’s the game plan today Andy. We’ve seen some things to exploit their defense! Here’s what we are going to focus on ...

  • Long developing pass plays. Erving spent the last month away from football. He played well once in his career
  • Isolate Steele on Young. We feel the advantage is Dallas here! No help needed and we can get an extra receiver on the field
  • Screens! They won’t see us running a billion screens
  • Run every first down! They don’t think we will run at all!
  • Pass the ball 60 times is a recipe for success!
  • Control the clock. Our defense is elite and won’t let them score at all

Let’s do a quick analysis, you have 4 inexperienced starters at o line for the cowboys and the guy with the most experience has been a bust.

On the other side of the ball you have a bunch of first round draft choices on their front line.

Let’s see... giving Andy Dalton the time to throw quick outs or screens. When your o-linemen will be going backwards on every play.
As much as the cowboys are the more talented team on paper this is going to come down to simple tactics which the cardinals used to great success.

Apply pressure on every play with multiple looks, their secondary might be weak but their front line is arguably the best the cowboys have faced to date as a collective unit.

Thos game is going to be a massacre and there’s a good chance Dalton will get seriously injured as they are going to feast on sacks.
