You make some good points. But this is why the structure is so important.

the cap hit can’t be 35-40 mil. Or at least not until the cap goes up even more.

the cap hit the first couple of seasons of any deal would be much lower than 35 mil.

Look at romo’s contracts. His cap % was lower many seasons because of restructures. Hence why the cowboys were taking cap hits from Romo for 2 seasons after he was gone.

end of the day. I think people focus on the per year number way too much. It’s the structure and guarantees that matter because they are what dictates cap hits.
Yeah, I mean obviously Jones did offer 35 million over 5 years so they must think they can swing it cap wise.

The thing that is so interesting to me though is that fans spend so much time harping on Romo, and now Dak, and yet when they go out the team basically isn't competitive at all. That's how bad these teams are, and yet people continue to think that if the QB just threw the ball 5 inches this way or that we would be super bowl contenders. It's dumb.

We can only hope that the Jones re-evaluate how they build a roster and stop with all the high risk reward players who seem to never make it to the field.

LOL....you wanna pay a dude 40 million a year...that has a bad wheel....and has piss poor accuracy. I see your crap bet and raise you....;)
So you gonna act like Dak didn’t have this Dallas offense at No1 in every category. Piss poor accuracy doesn’t throw for 500 yards. I’m starting to think it’s another reason y’all hate Dak. What you just stated is just ignorant.

Pay or don't pay doesn't matter, dood is done with the type of injury he sustained.

Exactly.....

Here is Dak getting ready to play next year.....You can't convince me he's not gonna need a tape job from hell just to keep that from dislocating.

You don't sink a bunch of money into that.

Does it really matter anymore?

The same front office no matter what. If they couldn't do it in 25yrs they won't do it now.

So it really makes no difference anymore on what they pay Zeke, Cooper, Jaylon, Dak, or anyone. This team I'd doomed to mediocracy.

You gotta find out where you land in the draft. If you end up w/ a chance to get a QB....you take the rookie...and save the money.
Lawrence won’t be there
Even we couldn’t find a way to lose to jets
This morning we had 10th pick
It’s obviously a little higher now though

lf you were on the "Don't pay Dak" side you now look incredibly foolish, and if you were on the other side you have another year of contract negotiations to not look forward to.

Au contraire mon frère. As bad as this team is, you can’t use $40M of the salary cap, about 30% of it, on one player. This team isn’t going to be good for years.

Put me in the “don’t pay him” camp and it’s not because I think he’s a bad quarterback. I’d rather rebuild from scratch. Ideally we’d franchise him and trade him next offseason.

Dak shouldn't want to come back, seriously, if he values winning a SB. The Joneses have wasted many careers of talented players, and that ain't ever changing... it's a fn football wasteland in Frisco at the Star.

Dak should force a trade b/c he still is gonna get $35+M per.

Jerry is old, Jerry is the worst GM in the NFL but come the Spring he will not allow Prescott 666 and Todd including Dak's pal's(Zeke, Gallup, Lamb) to force him to give this most average QB a cap killing contract.

I can get the argument that the team is too far off from competing to pay Dak huge money.

I think we have moved up 2 spots....Chargers / Jags still playing....one of those guys get to 2 wins...so we move up to # 1/8. Oh the joy of sucking...in a year when everyone is tanking for Lawrence. NFL should investigate...

Probably should be asking if Dak wants to stay with this team. Outside of the WR corps, what is there really? Putrid defense, questionable coaching, Barnum and Bailey front office and sitting home watching this spineless and gutless performance is probably eye opening.

Incorrect.

The Cowboys were ahead 24-23 and were driving for more when Dak was injured.

And Dak started the game, which is why he gets credit for the win. Look it up.

yup....put some tape on that....that's never gonna be a problem again....and by the way....sign right here...40 million a year. :omg:

If that goes down....we got bigger problems.

That debate has been settled very easily, and it didn't take long at all.

If you were on the "Don't pay Dak" side you now look incredibly foolish, and if you were on the other side you have another year of contract negotiations to not look forward to.

This sucks.

If you ever thought Zeke was the "engine behind this offense" well LMAOOOO

I am uncertain I see your point.

Last year Dallas was 8-8 and Dak had his best statistical year. This season Dak was having a great statistical season but the team was 1-3 heading into the 5th game wherein he was lost for the season.

So given the holes on defense and the need to replenish the OL how will devoting $35M+ a season help fill those holes?

While Dak has shown himself better than Dalton, he was still 12-16 in his last 28 games dating back to the mid way part of the 2018 season.

I get the desire to stick with Dak based on his personal stats the last 20 games and the fear of trying to find a replacement but this team needs to be rebuilt in far too many areas to think Dak will lead the team anywhere but 8-8.

WRONG!

Dak is a bonafied franchise Top 5 QB in the league right now. He's in his prime. QBs like Dak don't grow on trees.

A rookie QB would take 2-3 years to mature and learn the game at the NFL level. By that time, most of the team would be "over the hill" and definitely rebuilding.

for pete's sake!! #4 is NOT a franchise QB, he is a leader, he is a stud, he is a (it seems) good person and a fine human being. All that said he cannot, has not and will probably never be able to win a game with his arm. He is not #8, or #12, he's not even #9. Stop reading the box scores and pay attention to the games, watch were he puts the ball to open receivers in clutch situations, REALLY WATCH.

All that doesn't matter though. The bottom line is that with the current Owner/Pres/GM it doesn't matter who the HC/OC/DC is. This team has good players, the problem is they are not being held accountable, not being led, not being coached because who is the ultimate authority at the Star? JJ!

I never would have guessed floaty was a doctor.

I would have thought a doctor is way too busy, and wouldn’t have the time to troll cowboys message boards for 20 years straight.
