Yeah, I mean obviously Jones did offer 35 million over 5 years so they must think they can swing it cap wise. You make some good points. But this is why the structure is so important.
the cap hit can’t be 35-40 mil. Or at least not until the cap goes up even more.
the cap hit the first couple of seasons of any deal would be much lower than 35 mil.
Look at romo’s contracts. His cap % was lower many seasons because of restructures. Hence why the cowboys were taking cap hits from Romo for 2 seasons after he was gone.
end of the day. I think people focus on the per year number way too much. It’s the structure and guarantees that matter because they are what dictates cap hits.
The thing that is so interesting to me though is that fans spend so much time harping on Romo, and now Dak, and yet when they go out the team basically isn't competitive at all. That's how bad these teams are, and yet people continue to think that if the QB just threw the ball 5 inches this way or that we would be super bowl contenders. It's dumb.
We can only hope that the Jones re-evaluate how they build a roster and stop with all the high risk reward players who seem to never make it to the field.
