Who are you signing?
Teams don’t let players worth keeping leave via FA. Yet we keep hearing about how getting rid of Dak is going to allow us to add a bunch of awesome starters on defense. A legit free agent starter on defense who isn’t over the hill is extremely expensive.
For DT and Safety (which is huge needs) not really.

Guys like Shelby Harris, Johnathan Hankins, and Adrian Amos sign LITERALLY every off-season for affordable prices

Legit free agency starters costing 15+ million is an excuse the cowboys front office uses to enforce there fake "we like the guys we have" narrative.

Don't belive it for a second. Also don't spin all-pro players signing for max contracts as not being able to get players 80% as good for half the price

"Everything but a quarterback" is absolutely the Commanders. They have invested a ton of draft capital in the defense, but they don't have a quarterback - or more than one actual NFL wide receiver - so they're not closer to being a Super Bowl contender now than they were a decade ago.

Kirk Cousins may be available.

:lmao:

The guys you named are the same level or below what we signed this off-season. You see where that got this defense. How that’s run stopping coming for us. I saw our prize DE finally sniff the QB today. That was awesome right..

Take a look at what free agent defenders cost last season.

btw...we signed 2 free agent DTs and a safety this offseason....You want more of that?

They drafted Haskins. Wasn’t like they didn’t try.

Yeah no this is 100% BS

3 studs coming off there rookie contracts is not the same thing as the washed up 30+ year old guys we signed like Poe, McCoy, and Griffen

Did you even read what I posted ? I suggested getting good mid 20s players in there prime, not signing washed up 30+ year olds that nobody wants late in free agency

If you cannot see the difference then I cannot help you.

You 100% sound like Jerry Jones trying to deflect to justify poor decisions

Hankins has 10 tackles on the season, no sacks, and has little impact.
He signed relatively cheap because he has been a disappointment with little market last year.

So how does keeping our QB stop us from signing an underachiever like this?
At least the 3 we signed have accomplished a high level in their careers.
If you want some “prime” underachiever with little free agent market then I’m sure we can find a bunch of them next year....and keep our QB.

As a secondary part of their approach. When you don't prioritize it, you don't get a good one unless you get lucky.

Actually it seems like teams that don't prioritize it have a fair shake at it. Cowboys were not looking at a quarterback when they drafted Dak. Meanwhile the Eagles and Rams traded a boat load of picks to get quarterbacks in that same draft. They tried to get Paxton Lynch and almost cost their franchise. Seahawks had just signed Matt Flynn when they got Russell. Cardinals had Josh Rosen when they drafted Kyler. When teams reach and prioritize the position is when you fail like the Bears have. If the Bears would've sat back and played their position they would've ended up with Watson or Mahomes.

Why do you think it would be less? If it is less this year, it would be astronomical 2-3 years from now. If they were to trade for him, he could just name his price, because he has all the leverage.

Just let them go...Payne and Allen are their two most important players on defense. You let one go, and everyone else is worse. Now, all of a sudden, you're weak at one of the DT spots, your edges are less effective, and you've handicapped what you've been trying to build for the last 3-4 years, without investing enough to build a roster around a $40m qb.

Hypothetically adding players without talking about the cap ramifications is pretty pointless. There are a lot of teams that would be nasty if you just pick and choose guys to add to the roster.

why would his cap hit be less than a guaranteed 31 mil? Sorry, I’m not sure if this is a legitimate question. Can you make me a single player in the leader currently with a cap hit 31+?

you’re focusing on two specific players to make a case. I said one and whichever is most expendable. But sure, playing your ace writ out with either Payne or Allen, no their interior wouldn’t be weak, it would just be weakened. And Dak instead of either (over Kyle Allen) is a massive net gain.

Mahomes yes, but Watson is starting to have the same question marks as Dak is having.

I am talking he has a better skill set than Dak and I like Dak. For one he has a stronger arm and has better accuracy
Oh yeah maybe.

but honestly the only important trait an NFL QB needs to have is the spatial awareness and ability to survey the field.

Peyton Manning had a noodle arm after his neck surgery and had the greatest season for a quarterback ever in 2013.

mommy because bill O’Brien is one of the bigger idiots the league has seen. The bears would’ve been ridiculous with Deshaun.
Super Bowl favorites easily with Watson.

The fact that he held the Texans together last year with half a lung and almost beat the chiefs is amazing.

true. If they’re able to draft fields or Lawrence and trade Dak that’s fantastic too
I’d only do it if the pick in getting allows me to draft again in the top 15. We need BPA at any defensive position. Would still have a top 36th pick at another defender. Dream scenario:

1A.Trevor Lawrence
1B. Patrick Surtain Jr
2. Best DEF

Offense will be good in 2021 with our Dak and our OLman back. That should be good enough to complete for the playoffs. With the defense, you have to keep adding to it, and hoping younger players drafted the past couple years make strides. Dak amd healthy offensive line is probably good for a division title next year
If you are planning on Tyron being one of “our OLman back” you have been buying too much of Jerry’s snake oil. Tyron is most likely either “done” or “almost done” and relying on him is pure folly going forward.

That's not the Commanders. Commanders got rid of Kirk Cousins, traded for Alex Smith and lost McVey and Shanahan back to back. If they had gotten a player of Dak's caliber first they'd be a legit team in the NFC East. They got nearly every other position. They aren't deep but they have a nice base on offense.

Commanders might just be “just a QB away” from making some real noise.
