The mess is in the Front Office and Scouting Department.

So talent was good enough to overide dysfunction.

What dysfunction are you referring to? Switzers team was lead by Aikman, Emmitt, and Irvin. The dysfunction was in the front office not on the field. That super bowl team was a cohesive unit of great players who knew how to win and carried on the winning culture Jimmy had instilled in the team. It took many years for Jerry to destroy it.

It was the team/talent that Jimmy built that won that third Super Bowl, don't you agree? It was Jerry's dysfunction to fire a back-to-back Super Bowl winning coach, don't you agree? Jimmy built such a juggernaut of a team that even Switzer could lead them to a Super Bowl, don't you agree? Please don't compare on the field winning and excellence under Jimmy's tenure with the off-the-field, 3-ring circus that Jerry brings to the table that creates constant drama and unnecessary distractions. Jimmy delivered 3 championships regardless if he wasn't on the payroll for the last one.
I agree that Jimmy's team won that super bowl. This post states that Talent cannot overcome Dysfunction. It sure did without a doubt when the Cowboys won with Barry as HC. Talent can in fact overcome Dysfunction it's been proven.

Switzer's team was still Jimmy's team actually.

I would not say the Cowboys have had much dysfunction on the field until this season. Sucking and dysfunction are different. This season is dysfunctional everywhere. Talent can overcome Dysfunction. Just the Cowboys haven't had that talent since the salary cap came about. But the point of the post is that Talent cannot overcome Dysfunction. And Barry Switzers super bowl win proves that talent can overcome Dysfunction. And yes Barrys team was dysfunctional on the field unless of course playing high as a kite isn't dysfunctional.

We've proven that for two decades, we're always as talented as it gets on paper.

Bullet, love ya but I have to disagree here. Talent is the only way to overcome this.

When the design is the flaw, management, the only way to overcome that is with exceptional employees.

The ownership/management is the real detriment to the success of this team but that will not change so how do we get a work around that? Get so much talent, these incompetents can't screw it up. The twist is we're counting on these incompetents to overachieve on talent acquisition to overcome their own incompetency at management.

Unfortunately, I do not see that happening so the only hope fans have is luck. We have to hope that these incompetents get lucky enough to overcome their own ineptitude.

But even when he’s hired a HC he still meddles and gets in the way undermining the authority of his HC.

Goes back to him not valuing the HC as anything positive. He sees it as a position that he needs to have someone. I'm surprised he hasn't hired one of his idiot sons as his HC.

Jerry has 47 offspring ready to run this organization for the next 250 years so it's safe to say our own, our children's, our children's children and children't children's children will have these same convos
Now that made me laugh... bravo..it's pretty much the same thing I posted earlier...we are screwed.

My friends- my fellow suffering Cowboys fans- Here’s some truth we all need to accept right now: All the talent in the pro football world is not enough to overcome this dysfunctional, putrid, non-accountable culture.

Let us count the ways:
  • For those of you hoping for the #1 pick next year, aka the Trevor Lawrence sweepstakes. Sorry, but that won’t fix fix this mess.
  • We could acquire Pat Mahomes tonight, and it wouldn’t fix this mess.
  • We could add All Pro talent at every position, on both sides of the ball, and it won’t fix this mess.
  • We could draft the best pass rusher and run stuffer in the draft next year. It’s not enough to fix this.
  • We could trade the entire defending champion KC chiefs roster for this roster of quitters, and it wouldn’t make us much better.
Accept it- this mess, this stink is a 25 year rotten egg that is the responsibility and result of the 78 year old fool that still believes if you buy an NFL team, you are qualified to run that team’s football operations. Well, the truth is, our owner can’t. And his stubborn arrogance is the real culprit here.

Here is the cancer that eats this organization:
  • No accountability. If the guy playing GM never, ever has to pay a price for his mistakes, then there is truly no accountability anywhere else. That’s organizational health 101. If you don’t hold the people at the top accountable, you can’t anywhere else.
  • Because the front office is “soft”, so is its team.
  • What this team needs is a HC that has an “asthma field” again.
  • Truth bomb- there is no recovery with a guy named Jones leading football operations. Period. It’s over. They have crapped the bed for too long.
  • Hate to say it, but if there is no humilty shown by Jerry to take any responsibility to change his ways, all the talent in the world won’t matter.

I've been on here for over 10 years and this is the realist post I've ever read.

Until we get a coach that can overcome the country club, revenue generating and branding first, players getting big contract and not living up to it atmosphere we will not win.

I'm afraid the only Belicheck can do that now.

Jimmy had a degree in psychology and that helped immensely.

Dysfunction is a product of losing. So, yes, talent (and coaching) always overcome it.
Sounds like a backwards argument. Who drafts the talent and hires the coaches? Jerry, right? So if he sucks at drafting and hiring the right coach, how can that be overcome? The dysfunction is the root, not a by product.

I understand your point and agree to some extent...but why do other teams somehow overcome their injuries and still play competitive football..ie,the eagles, packers...etc..where as, we have a player or 2 out and the whole thing falls apart, and I'm not just talking about this year either.

we don't have player or two out , thats the difference if you cant see next man up doesnt apply here..the OL is gone the backups to backup are playing and not only do we lose dak now Dalton and many defenders were gone before game 2..its not fair to assess this new staff or this year and ignore those facts..
this year is all we should be focused on as its new staff who didnt get fair shot at changing that narrative..

BTW i do believe while some turned to losses Dak and the offense did overcome losing both starting tackles by scoring a chat tom of points, but then 2 more go down and then dak goes down and then knight goes down..it just cant be overcome and then Dalton goes down..

this season was lost due to injurys and well time to look toward 2021..in 3 season for Mm you want to revisit this old dated narrative , then we can discuss it ..its not fair to MM and this staff to have shortened off season and battle of attrition set in to say see its the same thing..its not i cant remember the last time weve had that many key injurers in such a short period..it feels like the Campo era but we are playing with our 3rd strings offense now..
