Well we should all just give up then right? No one thinks a rookie QB will fix our defense. We all get the JJ root of the problem argument, but what do you suggest from there? Are we supposed to wait for a new owner to have hope or is it reasonable to change our expectations with player and staff changes?
All of the people who applauded the FO (SELF INCLUDED) during the offseason look stupid now. Most look like hypocrites as well, because we were sending compliments after the draft and free agency.
Those that held tight and said we suck no matter can take a victory lap, though the same people always say we suck. So its a bit of a broken clock scenario.
You're mad at the product on the field. He's mad that he's being held accountable.
Yea, like all narcissistic leaders. They hate the tough questions.
I’m surprised he didn’t get up and leave.
It will not happen in his lifetime but a board of directors is exactly the type of oversight someone like Jerry Jones requires. Keeping an extra title like general manager for 30-plus years is six times too long and does not promote success via different insightful organizational perspective.Cowboys need a board of directors to institute some accountability and force this clown out.
Quote of the day:
Jones was asked how much blame he deserves as general manager for the Cowboys' record.
"As much as you give me when you're talking about how great the talent is," Jones said. "I think you basically step up there that it's a joint effort, has been forever. And it's a joint effort, have a lot of input, have input from some of the best there are in terms of opinions, in terms of deciding what to do. Have lived a life of being able to determine when there's too much input, but don't confuse the ultimate decision with just a single-minded decision.
"That's not the way it works. Never has worked that way. Didn't work that way from the first day I walked through this door. And I've had the last say on everything since I bought the team in 1989. Period."
Jones said he anticipates some "personnel changes," but he was not asked to elaborate. The NFL trade deadline is Nov. 3. He did back head coach Mike McCarthy on multiple occasions.
"One of the reasons Mike McCarthy is the coach is because he's been through it," Jones said. "He's had tough times and he's had disappointing times. ... Certainly we couldn't have wanted to be at this stage with our team this year, but if I'm going to hire a coach that will be at this stage and work through this for the betterment for the rest of the year and for what's in the future, I've got my man."
The board of directors is ultimately the Cowboys fan base which have however directly or indirectly continued to provide support despite the results on the field. Until that changes don’t expect our ownership to step down.It will not happen in his lifetime but a board of directors is exactly the type of oversight someone like Jerry Jones requires. I’d argue it appears Garrett was holding it all together.Looks like Garrett left this team in a much, much worse state than we all thought.
The fan base can collectively approach Jones with forms of persuasion that might alter his way of managing the team to some degree. However, the hypothetical collective effort must be an planned effort that is innovative and definitely not something to do with unorganized boycotts, billboards, PSL ultimatums, etc., suggested on this site in the past, in order for it to have any reasonable means of achieving success in my opinion. The board of directors is ultimately the Cowboys fan base which have however directly or indirectly continued to provide support despite the results on the field. Seems I recall earlier this year many of these fans claiming our owner was turning this over to a proven HC and his son more or less running football operations with our owner more of just a figure head now .
What’s changed ?
I wish I shared your hope our fans would force the issue cumulatively. But I suspect much like in the past the first sign of any improvement they’ll be back on board. The fan base can collectively approach Jones with forms of persuasion that might alter his way of managing the team to some degree. Many vocal fans perhaps but I believe a significant portion of cowboyszone took a wait-and-see approach to discover how McCarthy would do in a owner/GM/head coach relationship with Jones. Personally, I did not expect the transition to run perfectly smooth as far as on-field results are concerned but hoped it would not deteriorate has badly as it has this early in McCarthy's tenure.
