I don't consider rooting for them to lose pulling against them this year. I am rooting for them to win the draft order, which will be better for the team than finishing 6-10.

Most players don’t care anymore, you’re right. There’s no organizational loyalty — it’s all about the bottom dollar and how much exposure they can generate for themselves for potential supplemental income through promotions, etc. Football is is a job to most, and rarely about loyalty and passion.

This is 100% evident in the 2020 Cowboys.

If they, the players themselves, don’t care about winning, why should I care if they win? No other fan or member of a forum can take away my “fan card” for me not really caring if the team wins in 2020.

I am a diehard cowboys fan. Have been since I was a child. The team losing in the short term could help them out in the long term. I haven’t missed a game in 20 years. Anyone call me “not a true fan” if they want, it really doesn’t affect me.
I think we are just all disgusted and upset about them right now. If I saw heart and fight then I would understand that maybe they just aren’t that good. But rarely do I see them really get upset. I saw Elliot get mad after his last fumble. Was nice to see he cares. He knows he isn’t going to be the rushing champ this year but he at least shows some emotion.

right now!

just imo but any one who takes time out of their day to post on a message board is a true fan and i think it is ok to root against them right now and hope jerry open his eyes and sees that whst he is doing is not working and has not worked in a long time. u have to hope for big time change and that will not happen unless the team hit true rock bottom!

it is not good to keep trying to fix a house with a rotten foundation...some times u need to tear it all down!

When the players quit, I think fans have the option to quit too. Why support someone who’s not going to put in the effort/care to play? I just don’t understand it.

I watched the Chargers-Jags game (both came into the game with 1 win each) and saw both teams putting maximum effort and playing with heart. Very competitive game.
All I want is the Cowboys to give 100% on the field. You bring up a valid question about supporting people who don't put out the effort.

I will not root for them to lose. It is just not in me. However I have not been upset and will not be upset when they lose.
I can see others opinions though that want them to lose at this point for the draft pick.
I am almost right there with them. However come game time, I just can’t do it. After the Eagles game, I may think different.

Now if I knew for sure they would get Lawrence or Fields in the draft, that may be a different story. As when they got Aikman. However that was a no brainer. But with Dak in the mix, it is a little different. There is no guarantee they would go QB.

Some of these players will be on the team next year and even the year after that. It’s hard to pull against them now and then pull for them later. I agree that I don’t like what this team is about. I’ll still root for them, though, and laugh at whoever loses to them. I’ve never been one for draft order. It seems like loser talk to worry about the consolation prize for a bad season—at least they pick first.

My father became a Cowboys fan because thye covered the spread at a high %.

Recently, they have not covered the spread this year 0-7. So you rout for the Cowboys if you bet on them not covering the spread. It is the safest bet this year.

Right now, it would appear that the players have a "defeatist" attitude. And with that attitude comes a lack of confidence...and then it just spirals out of control. If some of these guys can just start to believe in themselves a little, then perhaps, we will start seeing better effort on the field. I really don't know what else to say. I will continue to root for them through thick and thin, but at this point, it is numbing to watch them play. :(

And still consider yourself a fan?

I have pulled against them for a better draft position but now is different.

I love steak but this is a bad piece of meat so it's OK for me not to like it. I don't like this team.

I know that's a signal for some of you to tell me to hit the road and that I am not a fan but I can return to being a fan when they have a more likable team.

They're quitters, they're going through the motions but they've quit inside and odds are they don't like this team anymore than I do. They lack direction, leadership and like that team that Wade was fired from, they run from a fight. They talk the talk.

I dunno, what do they need a Morale Officer? No coach or player can seem to get them fired up, they can have a team come into their stadium and embarrass them and turn around an go into the lair of one of our most storied rivalries and not even pay dues to that. They just don't care.

The first time I had this feeling that there was a new kind of football player was that last game to close Texas Stadium with 100 former Cowboys invited to the game to close the House That Landry Built and most of those players helped him build it. The players interviewed after that game were livid at the lack of heart displayed on that field that night. They just didn't care. About the history or even being a Cowboy.

I do not think this is exclusive to the Cowboys because I've seen this disinterest in the game unless they're in it. Saw it last night with Aaron Donald on the sideline just chatting away and laughing on the bench while the game was being played. Back in the day, if the other player considered to be the best D guy in the game was on the field, Donald's eyes would have been off Mack on every play.

I do think the Cowboys have too many of those players and too many one year mercs just passing through for them to get fired up about being a Cowboy. It's just a job.

And there it is, how many of these players are proud to be a Cowboy? Is is just a team they're on until they get to their next one? Does that old saying "it's ok, I was looking for a job when I found this one" apply here?

This is why Ryan Fitzpatrick is one of my favorite players and the man has been on more teams than any other QB but when he gives you his sword, it's yours until you send him on his way. In that sense, he's a throwback. His team is the one he is on.

Hell, some of these players didn't get fired up to play the Skins and won't this week to play the Eagles because they might be playing there next season.

Maybe it's me and I am expecting too much in today's NFL but I really do not like this team and have a hard time pulling for them, even against the Skins this last Sunday and I really don't know how I am going to feel when they go to PHL this Sunday. I hate the Eagles but they've got heart and my team doesn't. And I hate that. They're not losers because they lose but when they lose heart, they lose me.

In the NBA, you better be at the very top or the very bottom. Im a sixer fan, and they arent at top, butthey have 2 of the top players that makes them better than avg.

In the nfl, if you can get a Peyton manning... you do it. We are TERRIBLE. For the first time in at least 30 years, I actually didnt watch the 2nd half of a Cowboys game. If we have a shot at Lawrence.... id lose every game.Even if you keep Dak... what do you think Lawrence could be worth in the form of draft picks? A whole lot more than 1 number 1.

Last year when we lost and Garrett was removed

it needed to happen..

This year is worse but however sometimes its gotta get worse before it gets better.......

Landry was fired it got worse and then it led to 3 superbowls

I think it’s smart for them to lose every game so they can get in the Trevor Lawrence & Justin Fields sweepstakes. So I’m rooting for what’s best for the team & that’s for us to lose. I don’t see them actually drafting Lawrence or Fields, but you could get a ‘Hershall Walker like‘ Kings ransom of picks for Trevor Lawrence & I think Justin Fields will be a beast as well. You could draft Fields and pay him ~$27mil x 4 years with a 5th year team option instead of ~$160 mil x 4 years for Dak & rebuild that way -or- sign Dak (a proven top 10 nfl QB) and they have ~11 picks (3rd, 4th, 5th, and 7th compensatory picks + their 7 picks) this year & if they have a top 3 or 4 pick - I would trade it for more picks. I wrote an article last night about how Jimmy Johnson went from 1-15 to super bowl in 4 years.

It was 2 drafts that changed everything (89 & 91). They had a crap ton of picks in both of those drafts and built the 90’s dynasty.
Ummmmmmm, they had a different picker.

All you proved is that you're a fair weather fan and the only thing worse than a fair weather fan is not being a fan. As you said you could again be a fan when they start winning. I've been a fan since the very first day the Cowboys came into the league and with only getting a single tie in the first season would be enough for some to find another team, but I've stuck with them every year and EVERY game I hoped they win.. You sound like the guy who says he really loves his wife more than anything in the world and when they get into financial problems tries to convince his wife to have sex with a really rich guy who will give them the money to get out of that financial problems.
