It would send a message to the team that they better start taking things seriously or they will be out of a job.

I used to think that way myself, but probably some of these guys would likely be glad to go elsewhere, to be less exposed and carried by better players.

Of all the big contracts that have people miffed - Lawrence, Elliott, Smith, etc. - he's the easiest one (or more specifically the one that won't cause the most heartburn) this offseason because he's basically a wash cap wise. So yeah, you have to still eat $9MM in cap space but you don't have to take on any additional bonus money or anything like that. You actually have a net savings of $400K.

It's not ideal but it's certainly better than the cap situation if you tried to cut Elliott or Lawrence. Woo boy, those would sting.

At least the other two can play football. Jaylon can’t play football

McCarthy won't do that.

Jed will call Jaylon into a meeting, draw on a napkin and drone out some stupid analogy and MM will lose any credibility he may or may not of had.

How embarrassing to stand in front of the team with pie on your face....not even being present NOR invited to attend the meeting.

Bad look. Worse results.

It wouldn’t be the first time that McCarthy stood in front of one of his teams with pie on his face.

Or some other food that he was eating.

The other two eat up way more cap space so relative to their production it’s kind of a wash.

Smith might be the worst of the three but he also has the best contract of the three. Elliott’s is probably the worst of the bunch.

No way - Lawrence’s is the worst. His dead cap charge for 2021 is over $50m.
