MM is almost certainly going to have to take the blame . This team has more talent but looks worse under MM and his staff . MM has managed to make Garrett look better , somehow. No direction , no emotion, and no authority with the players. It is not all his fault as there are major talent gaps and hugely overpaid players on the roster.

At some stage , probably next year , Jerry will have to own and probably make a coaching change. Not sure there are any slam dunk options remaining at this stage.

Few names being floated :

Urban Meyer?
Mike Zimmer ?
Lincoln Riely ?
Eric Bienemy ?
Sean Payton ?

Who would you hire if you were Jerry and Stephen ?
unfortunatley McCarthy is the only option. Jerry gave him a 5 year deal and he is not going anywhere for at least another 3 years..

but if I had a choice above, given we are rebuilding now, it would be Meyer. zimmer as DC, he failed a HC where he had open reign.

Another blowout loss against the Eagles in prime time could change a lot of feelings on this.
Yes, that could happen. At what point don't the losses sting anymore?

The other issue is the lack of effort and willingness to quit. Going to have a lot of fans go from not liking this team to hating it.

Urban Meyer looks real comfortable - and doing a great job - in the Fox studio.

Lincoln Riley: keeping OU atop the Big 12; but just like his predecessor Bob Stoops - his Sooners teams get worked over in the college football playoffs.
Passing on him until he can put a good defense on the field.

Sean Payton: A slim possibility, especially if Brees retires. Cowboys have top 3 pick....Joneses promises to get Trevor if Sean signs on. But Gayle Benson could counter to have him remain.

Mike Zimmer: stay in Minny and get the Vikes right.

Eric Bienemy: stays at KC cause Andy steps away after 2nd Super Bowl win.

Robert Saleh would be an intriguing option. At least he would scare some of our players? I dont know what to do anymore.

Biggest Coaching regret isn't firing Red last year or Hiring McCartney/Nolan this year.

I still stand by this today just like I did back in 2015. Once Bill Callahan left the Dallas Cowboys it took our offensive dominance with them. Cowboys OL hasn't looked dominant since he left and hasn't developed any talent as a result. With all the investments Dallas spent at the offensive line position with Connor Williams, Tyler Biadiaz, Connor McGovern, no reason not to think Callahan wouldn't develop them into All Pro guys like he did TFred, Martin, Smith.

Fast forward to 2020 where Bill Callahan is thriving with the Browns as they came into Jerry World and ran all over Dallas putting up 307 average 7.7 while Dallas is searching for answers on the offensive line. I am sure that bridge is probably already burned at this point but Callahan left this team hurt Dallas more than some would like to admit.
Hmmm! So why hasn’t that dominance followed him especially in Washington.... they invested fairly heavily in their line and haven’t had near the success!

JG might be available at the end of the year. Wouldn’t that be something. He brings back JG and leave Moore as OC and gets Zimmer for DC.

Meyer would be ok for 2 years then flake out smack in the middle of a rebuild. NO THANKS. He is too flighty.Payton is not leaving N.O.

then get Dabo
Someone who is actually competent, has had success and will stand up to Joneses

Old Man Adrian Peterson mustard up a 1000 yards last season with the Commanders despite the incompetence at the QB position last year. That dominance has Cleveland currently 3rd inthe league in rushing with Chubb on IR for the past 3 weeks now.

Lol! Last I heard k hunt was fairly good despite being an asshat. His 1st couple of seasons in DC after the team having invested multiple 1st and other high pick in the oline they were projected to be top 5. Couple of injuries and they ended up being league bottom atrocious!

How about not appointing Todd Bowles when Bill Parcells left?

Do you honestly think Garrett could do better with 12 starters have been out with injuries. and playing 2nd and 3rd team players on the OL?
We would be 0-7 and have lost every game by 30 points or more.

Plus we would not have had the draft that they had for future players.

MM is not going anywhere.
yes there are injuries , but the overall performance started negatively from game 1 before the injuries started to pile up . the team does not seem well coached or motivated.

Proper title for this thread would be "coaching fantasies" until further notice. There's little to suggest Jerry is going to change coaches after this season. That's not his MO.
agree , he does not want to fire MM. but the heat will be tremendous as the losses pile up.

very true. Sean payton was my favorite option but jerry did not go after him for some reason . Saleh from San Fransisco would be another option.
Riley would optimize the offense for sure.

Riley would. But we would still lose games 52-49

very true . Callahan seems way better than kellen or garrett . Politics and sensitivity between him and garrett probably sealed his fate.

That coaching staff makes double what this one makes and guys like Saban and Swinney aren't dumb, they have built two of the best sustainable renewable talent systems in college football history, they're not walking away from that to coach in the 20% turnover NFL. Same goes for Mullen and Smart, they're right behind Saban and Swinney.

Meyer wants the NFL because he's burned his major college currency and I don't get Riley at all unless he was just keeping OU on their money toes.
saban and swinney are not leaving , they make 9+ mil and are kings of these states. Urban has health issues and may not get along with Jerry . Riely is an offensive guru and has 3 big12 championships and fixing the defense. Mullen is interesting , he is stuck behind alabama and georgia and probably won't sniff a championship. but does not even have conference championships to show for his truoubles.
