According to some sources, he was a hot commodity and the Cowboys received significant interest from other teams wanting to acquire him and the Cowboys gave a “hard no” to trading Gallup.

Instead they’ll keep him for a rebuilding year next season and ultimately get nothing when he signs elsewhere. Another idiotic move unless they’re planning on trading Cooper and signing Gallup instead.

I understand what you're saying, but you've gotta pay somebody. Everyone on the team can't make a million dollars a year otherwise, you have one of the worst teams in history. We're bad, but we're not the worst in history.
We’re paying plenty of offensive players already.

Look at what we’ve invested into the OL, in terms of draft picks and cap dollars.

Our RB has the richest RB contract in the NFL and is underachieving, so we can’t trade him. We also drafted Mr. Fumbles with the #4 overall pick.

Our QB is making $31.4M this year and will make even more than that next year. He’s proven to be worth every penny since we’re clearly complete garbage without him.

And finally, we just spent a 1st round pick on another WR, who appears to be headed for stardom himself.

Now consider the fact that our defense has been historically awful this year. Somehow they’ve gotten even worse at taking away the ball, which I didn’t even think was possible.

Finally, pretend Amari Cooper wasn’t a Cowboy for a second. You’re the GM of the Cowboys and you have $20 mil/year to play with. Considering everything outlined above, would YOU spend that $20 mil/year on making Amari Cooper a Cowboy? Or would you spend it on the defensive side of the ball?

There’s your answer.

Just some team trying to poach our best WR on the cheap. I’d do it for a 1st, I’m guessing that’s when the conversations stopped. I’m also thinking Cooper isn’t tradable with his contract.

Once upon a time, Dak was making pennies/Jaylon Smith was making pennies/Zeke was making dollars/Tank was making pennies and the list goes on. Jerry wasted everyone of those rookie contracts, so what do you think he'll do with any new rookies? He'll waste them too. This is a never ending cycle going on with Jerry, so, if we want dominance, we have to draft well where the rookie defensive players are on 4 year contracts. If you can't do that, this cycle will rotate.

So spend that $20 mil/year in free agency on a few proven defensive stars, if you can.

Why would Jerry’s failures as a GM make it smarter for us to spend that money on a WR when our defense is historically bad?

Amari Cooper’s a good WR and that’s why we should look to move that contract. Some team out there might trade for him. Nobody’s trading for Zeke, Jaylon or Lawrence, our trio of highly-paid underachievers. We’re stuck with those losers for now.

Cowboys are not willing to trade WR Michael Gallup before
Tuesday's NFL deadline, source said. If they were to deal a
top receiver, he wouldn't be the logical choice.

Sweet. This is good news for me. I want Gallup on this team for years to come.

Trade Gallup if you can get a first. We need a team to be desperate, lets see if we can get lucky.

no one is trading for Zeke. not even a late round pick.
he's a washed RB making lots of money. his trade value is in the negatives.

The problem is JJ's paying (and restructuring) contracts.

As a result we lose out as we pay too much in Dead Cap money eg:

2017 - Romo was our 4th highest paid player and our DEAD CAP was 15% of our total expenditure (3 times as much as SB winners - Pats)
2018 - Romo 5th highest paid player (Dez 6th) our DEAD CAP was 17.59% of total player expenditure (twice as much as SB winners Eagles)
