Very true. Any other GM would get fired for a free agent 'haul' like that. But not here. It's just another day at the office.

To say nothing of what Little Enos has done with the contract negotiations.

Screwed around with Lawrence and then paid him AFTER Mack and Donald drove the price up.

Paid Jaylon Smith for no apparent reason, besides thinking he was 'getting a deal'. How's that working out?

And then panicked and paid Elliott two years before he had to, and watched him go in the tank.

Oh, and is still trying to pay Dak, after watching that market go from $25 million a year (remember when that was outrageous when Derek Carr got it?) to now $40 million a year that Mahomes got.

Any other 'contract negotiator' that did a job as poor as that would have been fired as well. But when both are related to the owner?

"We'll get it right next time..."

They have goofed free agency of their own players and others. At this point I don’t see how a businessman like Jerry can just take loss after loss. When this team is bad he makes less money.

Is there another GM in pro sports capable of surviving this kind of pathetic incompetence without getting fired? Only Mike Brown who also owns the bungles. 30 other GMs get fired for this kind of organizational slop.

This screams either laziness or incompetence or both. Damning either way.

The NFL system allows owners to be terrible and still make money hand over fist.

I don't think McCarthy should be off the hook for these moves.

i put this more on stephen than jerry. stephen's the guy who brings in personnel. i would suggest he needs to re-evaluate his stance on free agency. sometimes it makes more sense to go for the occasional big splash. it's easier to get a read on someone coming out of college and is hungry to make a name for himself as opposed to a mercenary who's in it for the money. quinn was good last year. aldon smith this year. but other than those two, very little or next to nothing for anyone else. stephen needs to rethink it.

The Cowboys have been dumpster diving in free agency for years now. So you think someone should be fired based on the results? That's like asking the chef to cook a gourmet meal on 50 bucks with the base ingredient being Spam. Then fire him after the woman throws her glass of boxed wine in his face in revulsion.

I would contend those are all serviceable players. The issue is veterans come here and see the toxic culture and just fall into it. It’s all the Jones family.

The NFL system allows owners to be terrible and still make money hand over fist.

From statists.com report dated Oct. 9 (sorry- my link skills are bad):

The 32 NFL teams combined for 15.26 billion dollars in revenue in 2019
- an amount that has increased steadily EVERY YEAR this century....
starting from $4.24 billion in 2001.
Regular season ticketing revenue made up %15.47 of the $15+ billion
Dallas Cowboys generated $980 million dollars in revenue in 2019
Patriots - $630
Giants - $547
Texans No. 4 - no total listed
Football Team No.5- no total listed--but the report did state Houston and Washington both topped $490 million

And that's why billionaires would sell their own mothers to get in on the NFL. Even when you lose, you can't lose.

That is sad.
Bum's son took us to two divisional round games. 2007 & 2009
Its sad that since 1995 we have had such few opportunities.
I wouldn’t call 2009 a close encounter. 2007 was probably our best team in 21st Century.

This isn’t the franchise many of us grew up with. I’m not sure why more fans haven’t adjusted their expectations this era.

We are no longer a championship caliber franchise. That’s history. I guess 25 years hadn’t been long enough. Maybe 40-50 years will be.

yeah you hit it on the head. The last SB win was my freshman year in college. That should give away my age down to 2 or 3 years.
A quarter of a century is unacceptable. The Dallas media and fanbase have allowed this to happen.
Our longest drought between SB wins was 1978 to 1992.. 14 years. We have nearly doubled that. And to make matters even worst. I am not just talking about a bottom line SB or bust discussion here.
Between 78- 1992 we still had 4 to 5 championship game experiences. In all honestly.. I really understood the concept of football around 1985 the years the Bears won the SB.
We have not had a championship game appearance since January 1996. Please whatever negative you want to post please acknowledge that fact and digest it, think about it. Lay down in it... then compare us to the rest of the league. We are really the bottom feeders of the NFL.
This is not the hallowed franchise I grew up with.. yes most of the early youth saw us losing 85-89 were painful very little hope until Jimmy Johnson came in and 89 was bad not many people thought he would last. The Herschel trade was the key where he made a once in a century trade and everything worked out.

The big picture is worse. May I refer you to the performance of this front office for the last qtr century?

jones has been in a desparate mode for 25 years....wanting to rebuild, letting his ego get in the way, running the draft and completely emptying the tank on talent on this team during Campo era, when Jones had full control....under parcells we started to have some semblence of a come back, start to add talent, build a team, getting closer and then Jones got involved again, shoved TO down parcells's throat and the team started to fall apart....then again, with the pansy coach in Wade......and then his puppet garrett....all the while getting more and more desparate and more and more making the wrong moves.

Jones is his own worst enemy.....he is so focused on dollars and jersey sales that he can't see straight....there is a reason organizationally we are so bad in signing and picking defensive players....there is no focus on that side of the ball. as much as they want to say, we sign, we drafted, how can they sign all the wrong players and draft all the wrong players......

until, there is a focus on defense. real defense, this team will not see another championship....we get an offense, which is what Jones likes. excites the fans. sells jerseys, gets you to post season, but for a championship we need defense and unfortunatley, I don't see that changing any time soon.

Yeah... you are correct. To me it boils down to the culture of the organization.

Since 1996 there’s only 3 teams in NFC who hadn’t appeared in a conference championship. Dallas, Detroit and Washington. That’s our peers this era.

The local media have certainly held this ownerships feet to the fire and a sizable segment of fans have too. But unlike most teams in the league our base and revenue isn’t generated from solely the locals.

These players were paid to play and contribute. I heard that Poe came in and left weighing in at 380 pounds. He usually plays at 340.
