They need to make progress with players learning this defense even if they don't have enough overall talent now to be good.

Aldon Smith appears to understand Nolan's front 7 concepts better than most of the other players.

There is value to keeping that type of player. More value than a conditional 7th round pick.

They'll probably re-sign Smith for next year.

If they can find other players (Randy Gregory, etc.) at that position for next year and reduce Aldon Smith from 80+ percent of the snaps down to around 50% then he can be a good player in that role.

I cant seeing Aldon coming back. Seattle have shown some kind of interest and as @kskboys says we dont have the money to compete with them, especially as we'll have Gregory and Lawrence and any spare cash for FA's will be needed for starting: safeties/LB and DT's....there's not much left for us to improve part-time starters

I wonder what Seattle offered, but it doesn't surprise me that the front office is absolutely blind about the state of this franchise
They are making a push to finish 6-10 in hopes of winning the east o_O

Very easy to make deals work

Not when you have so many holes and so little CAP space. Doing one deal and spreading it over years may be easy, but we need multiple deals.

As with everything moving forward it all depends upon how long Dak signs for.

How in the heck is this even being criticized by anyone before knowing what the offer was? So they are just supposed to accept any offer no matter what just for the sake of making a trade? Some of you fans......sheesh.
Good point. Seems like some of our Cowboy fans are playing vigilante and demanding justice from the Jones clan. Any bad roster moves made and the pitch forks will be out in full force.

It's more like two different opinions on the season and how to move forward....both have valid points.

Lol. Every year sees the same Chicken Little posts about a cap hell that never materializes

The guy hasn't made a play in weeks. If we are being honest, Aldon Smith of late has been as bad as anyone in the front seven. He hasn't gotten much pressure, and is a no show against the run.

If Jerry/ Stephen had any smarts they could have traded Aldon to Seattle for a higher pick in 2022, it would have been interesting if that scenario was brought up.

Well i'd say no NFCC game for 25 years is vindication of effective CAP management.

Always trying to shuffle to deck or paying tomorrow for today's overblown contracts.

I would have to know what the offer was. If it was as cheap as the 7th round pick that Seattle paid for Dunlap, I would have said no too.

I think it all depends on the compensation and whether they plan to extend him or not. If they don’t plan on extending him I would let him go for a 4th or add another pick later (6th) if it’s a late 4.
