Will Jerry draft a QB?

Lets play hypothetical here...

Obviously this season is over and we are fast-tracking all the way to a top-5 pick. The biggest ? This off-season will be our QB situation. The front-office was unable to get Dak signed for the past two off-seasons and now he will be coming off a major injury.

This draft has some pretty good QB prospects coming out:

Trevor Lawerence
Justin Fields
Zach Wilson
Trey Lance

If the Cowboys get a top-3 pick, how likely do you think Jerry takes a QB with our pick?

A few things to keep in mind as well:

-There arent many blue-chip/cant miss prospects in this class

-The best defensive player is a LBer

-You can franchise then trade Dak and get at least a 1st to help add players to a team thats short on talent

What say you?

We can only hope....But more than likely Jerry sees his time on this earth runnin out and will pay Dak whatever his agent wants this time around, and then bargain bin some more defense in FA....Our only hope in that scenario would be to land 2-3 good to great starters on D with our first 3 top of the round picks, and also have Tyron and La'el come back healthy.....Also I would prefer McCarthy take over playcalling on offense like he should have to begin with!

Top 2, I wouldnt rule it out. Im a Dak supporter, but he will cost alot of money and its still an assumption we can get anything done. I think if we have a top 2 pick, and Dak doesnt extend by the tag deadline, a QB is on the table.

If he extends we either sell pick or take Sewell

It’s going to be 1 of 3 players or trade back.

Parsons LB
Surtain CB

or by some miracle Lawrence QB.

trade back:
Caleb Farley CB
Shaun Wade CB

each one should have an excellent career.

I really don’t think you need to. This team only needs to get healthy on offense and they’re good to go from that side of the ball.

I would love to take Sewell if he’s there since I’m a trenches guy, otherwise I believe you can get a lot of value from trading back into the teens and picking up a bunch of picks to restock the defense.

If they don't take a QB or the OT, it looks like they'll have to build the defense from back to front. Considering the want to re-sign Aldon to couple with DLaw n RG the edge is cool. There not taking a LB or DT that high. Adding players in the secondary seems to be the best move with premium picks.

Long story short, draft a QB or build the secondary.

I've been saying it for a minute.
If its a top 3 we trade back. Get as many picks as we can.
Aim for Parsons or Wade ten in the 2nd round. OG. Fix that Guard spot beside Smith

Sadly the Joneses will not consider your question unless we get the first pick and I think it would be 70/30 he would trade it. Those guys have big egos and don’t want to admit mistakes. All I ask is that they look at all options. A quarterback on a 5 year rookie contract is like finding a gold coin in your back pocket.

I think its dependent on how the Dak negotiations go up until the draft. If Dak and France continue to play hardball, they just might.

They would be foolish to let them hold the franchise hostage.

If Dak is as good as a lot of yall say he is, you can trade him for at least a 1 and a 2

If we were half way decent I would be in favor of signing Dak long term. The reality is to many of our core players are business men first and football players second. The biggest problem with the Cowboys is the brand. We need some hungry dogs not corporate fat cats. You won’t win anything the way the Joneses run things.

Man it’s a tough question. It really is.

One of my arguments against drafting a QB and moving on from Dak, was that the odds of getting a QB better than him with a mid to late first rounder are very slim.

Since the cowboys are tanking this season anyway. If they have a top 5, top 3 pick and the SCOUTS AND COACHES (not the Jones) think there’s an elite caliber franchise QB there. I don’t see how you pass up on him.

a big part hinges on the contract negotiations. If the injury experience lowers Dak’s asking price or he decides to sign a cap friendlier deal. That allows them cap flexibility to spread the hits out. That could be really nice too.

if the cowboys have a top 3 pick and a team offers them another first for Dak. I prolly pull the trigger and trade him, then draft a QB and then change my username and lose all my likes :(

Zack Wilson is flying up the boards fellows. They call him the Mormon Manziel. Don’t think he wants that comparison but he wil probably go ahead of Trey Lance. I really believe this draft will be similar to 2018 with 5 quarterbacks going in the first round.

Unless we’re picking 1 overall highly doubtful. I’d consider Lawrence bc I think he’s that special but outside of him I’d pass.

Pay Dak 4 years 130+ guaranteed probably a overall value of 180 to 200 million or draft a A quarterback prospect in Justin Fields and pay him 35 million guaranteed total for 4 years. Pass me what you been drinking.

I just looked and there have been 56 QBs drafted in the first round since 2000. About 8ish that I'd put in the same category as Dak which is about a 15% hit rate.

I'm drinking factual data and being realistic and it tastes delicious.

I'm paying Dak and worrying about the other bad contracts we have in guys like Zeke, Jaylon, Crawford, etc...

If the quarterback busts. You draft another one. I doubt Fields bust with tackles back next season. You pay Dak who has a losing record in his last season you are stuck with him like Atlanta is stuck with Ryan an Minnesota is stuck with Cousins. No young quarterback ever drafted in the top two has ever had the Cowboys weapons. Maybe Luck and his team went to the playoffs.
