Diggs has as many career picks in 8 games as Byron had in 88. Just in case anyone was wondering if it was wise to let him walk. It was.
It’s proof that interceptions are the most overrated thing in football. This kid isn’t 10% as good as Byron & if he keeps giving up big plays he’ll be out of the league in 2 years.

Again, Diggs is a rookie. He's going to get beat. Many teams employ NFL-caliber safeties which can help CB's over the top so when the WR gets past them there is still someone there to help out. Our team has some guys who stand in the middle of the field and run towards where the ball is after the pass has been completed. If we can draft or sign some competent Safeties in the upcoming off-season that alone would make this defense look 1000 times better.

Need to get rid of Jaylon, Woods, Crawford, and Lawrence ASAP before Diggs, Hill and next years draft class learn that winning football is not important, making bank is all that matters.

Lawrence plays hard every game and had a really good game yesterday. He may be a bit overpaid, but I wouldn't get rid of him.

yep, the thing about an int is it’s often the same result as a punt.

I’ll take a 3 and out over the boom or bust DBs who get the nightlights.

disagree about him being out of the league thinking. He will get better. Has all the tools you want in a corner. It’s a hard transition to make from college.

remember Byron jones rookie year? They put him at safety because he constantly got burned deep.

I liked Byron, but his lack of playmaking was the difference making aspect which kept him from being resigned in my opinion.

There was a play in the second half of yesterday’s game where Digg’s, knowing he had help in back of him, broke on a pass in the flat that he almost picked it off.

I ask you this...in Byron’s time in Dallas when did you ever see him break and jump on a route?

Diggs is going to take his lumps and correct some of the issues; it’s part of every young player’s development. What I have seen are instincts and playmaking ability. I’ve also been very pleasantly surprised with his willingness to tackle.
every week he does things that are maddening, last week he almost had like 3 INTs against washington, dude is always around the ball. His rookie year is up and down but he forced the fumble out the endzone against seattle, and 2 INTs vs the Eagles.

Diggs is a rookie. Byron played FS as a rookie. Can’t really compare them. Diggs will be better then Byron, but being a starting cb as a rookie isn’t exactly easy in the nfl.

diggs needs to be better in stopping the pass, he has given up way more long pass plays and TDs than Jones...picks are good, but giving up big plays and TDs are exactly the opposite.

I think Diggs can correct this with experience. He is getting beat on the initial move of the WR. I have no idea what he is thinking or seeing but he hesitates as the receiver makes his first move. Then he is in catch-up mode. I think as he gets more familiar with the WRs and their routes, he will fix this hesitation. It is a comfort thing.

Imagine if we had Byron at one corner and Diggs at the other. Imagine what we might look like next season with both of those guys on the team. Why in the world would anybody downplay what either player can do and justify results, based on one not being here? That makes no sense. That's the kind of thought process that leads us to the situation we find ourselves in right now, IMO.

I have always said that getting rid of good players is not usually conducive to long term success. Byron was not a big play maker but he rarely gave up any. I wish the Cowboys would have been able to come to some sort of agreement with him.. But he's on a team that might make the playoffs this year.. so he's far better off in Miami.

Did he know he had help? He's gotten burned for doing that when he didn't have help, I believe. Don't get me wrong, I think he'll be a fine player and I'm rooting for him. But I'd rather have a CB who doesn't give up scores than a CB who occasionally turns the ball over so our offense may or may not do something with it.

Truth is, we shouldve signed Byron AND drafted Diggs.

At the end of the season, we only have Diggs and Brown under contract. We need 3 CBs
Corners are always on the market. I hope Dallas aren’t in love with any of these corners that contract are up

Its true but Diggs is a rookie. This is the time to make mistakes. Byron also never had the luxury of playing with the worst defense of all time or in Nolan's scheme either.

ITs a horrible way to gauge a corner but when it comes to paying 17 million per year...I need you to make plays. I don't care in what form or fashion.

Byron would've been nice if ANYONE could make plays but no one could. Just a bad mix.
Agreed that the guys that get paid need to make plays. Just look at how many people destroy Demarcus Lawrence because he doesn't get enough sacks to justify his contract. Those same people would be all over Jones if we had resigned him and he wasn't getting picks.

It would be nice to have both of them. DLaw was a bust move.

And if the Cowboys had drafted Landon Collins instead of Bryon Jones in 2015 we wouldn't be having this conversation because the Cowboys would have beaten the Packers and made it to the NFC championship game.

For the money I'm not upset watching Jones walk. He was a good corner that often locked down the opposing team's #2, or #3 WR. Would he have made a difference? Maybe a little, but you would have still seen a dysfunctional D.

And to think, Diggs has dropped about 5-ish interceptions he should have caught too.

While I agree that Diggs in not as shutdown as Byron yet, the guy is seemingly always close to the play and has gotten his hands on several balls. He just needs to get better at completing those plays.

If dak isnt signed they'll have plenty of money for a free agent cb that can actually play

Not completely true. Byron got a lot of snaps at cb his rookie year. They moved him because he got burned so often. CB is a tough tradition to the pros. It’s one reason I’m so optimistic about what diggs could be. He’s clearly the better playmaker. We just need more consistency. Should come with reps.
