Was never zeke vs Byron. I wanted to keep Bryon because defense needed the most help and he was better than an average player. Wasted the 1st pick on a receiver and let one of the better CBs go, now look at our defense.

We drafted Zeke over Ramsey and paid Zeke over Byron. Cowboys secondary with Ramsey and Byron would be amazing.

First off Elliott was paid the year BEFORE Jones was a free agent. Next Elliott as a rookie lead the NFL in rushing did Ramsey led the league in picks as a rookie - NO. Trust me I'm not a big Elliott fan and as the saying goes hindsight is always 20/20. Next Jones in his 5 seasons with the Cowboys had all of 2 picks. The link at the top of this thread lists the dolphins when Jones is playing they have 2 turnovers a game but NONE of them were by Jones. He has ZERO so far this season just like 2015, 2018 and 2019. Now I will admit that Jones is probably when healthy a better corner than what the Cowboys have but those that think if the Cowboys had kept him that it would have changed this defense that much is only fooling themselves.

This is a 2-6 football team with Byron Jones. He was inconsequential to W/L thats why they didnt sign his butt.

....seems to be helping out Miami, now doesn't he? You guys don't learn.

But a WR. Now THAT is what we needed.

We were one score from winning the seahawks game in which we allowed Lockett and Metcalf to burn us and you think one of the most important positions in the sports wouldn't help us?

We need football101 lessons to be given on here because some fans just don't get it.

well how about that. Good for him. I would have rather had Jones than Zeke or Smith but at the end of the day he's going to be watching the playoffs from home just like us and it cost Miami 15 mil. Nope it was the right decision not to pay that

Remember, the majority here wanted Zeke extended over Byron. Yikes.

I couldn't help watching last nights game and thinking that in one game, Diggs has more picks than Byron does in his entire career. Doesn't he only have 1 pick? Any this year?

Some wanted Ramsey over Zeke. I don't recall Byron and Zeke being related at all.

I was in the keep Byron crowd, but it’s over, no need to go back.

with the state of the team right now, I’m not sure signing him would have been the right move. Another major contract would have us in total cap hell in an offseason where this defense needs multiple pieces added.

Cant pay 18 million a year for a CB that cant catch. Good cover guy though. Now if the choice was Zeke or Jones...…………….Its Jones all the way. Personally, I don't pay either one.

Not true. Zeke was signed way before Byron. Thats like saying we paid Crawford over Byron. What about Jaylon over Byron, or D Law over Byron?

Has Byron even done anything this season? He has been injured as much as he played. I don't remember all the Byron love the last few years around here.
As a cowboy fan I am entitled to revise the history of everything in the franchise. Including love for players that play elsewhere.

Why I am wasting my time with you bozo. Look at his career here and tell me the games we won or lost because of him. Ya'll just dont get it, he wasn't THAT GUY no matter how much some of yall wanted him to be.

Zekes still elite. Stop it with the nonsense. Now if dak wasn’t greedy, we could’ve signed both zeke and Byron. Imagine Byron on the other side covering the top wr. Teams would go at diggs every play. He’d get beat done but end up with 7 ints.

Remember Miami had to pony up extra for the idea that they weren't going to win for a while supposedly.

It wasn't a problem.

Anyone raised in the Jerry culture knows it's all about money, not winning football.

Byron in 5 games has 8 tackles no int 1 pd. Spare me this thread the guy still gives no production. He basically gives you what anthony brown gives you.
He has no tackles and very few interception opportunities because literally nobody throws the ball against him......

That's the whole point of being a high level DB. Lol at trying to spin letting your man catch the ball so you can tackle him as a good thing

We knew we couldn't afford byron due yo impending dak deal. Only so many slices of pie.

And how many interceptions does Byron have

he won't ever have that... INTs ... just not type to see and contend for the ball in air vs WR, those 2 INTs that Diggs got, Byron won't ever have.
the flip side is Jones won't surrender the go-fly routes that the speedsters can/will get over Diggs, who have to depend much more on
cushion positioning and technique to fend better vs speed- fly go guys.

If Diggs had Jones or even Anthony Brown 4-3 level speed and played like it- he'd be awesome. But he is what he is.
He has to play and anticipate and play faster than what he times. Ala Richard Sherman,
i've heard Byron has given up only a very low percentage % in man coverage, just as he has here.

And for Fins to have vastly improve to have No.1 defense, he has to have had no only much better personnel support
and capable coaches but also Byron must be contributing personally himself.
i still he is a very solid CB but not elite - the elite ones manage to gets the turnovers ..imo.

i don't agree that we could not afford him.

amazing how we could afford Crawford.. and much of Crawford's 9 million could have easily been accessed to Byron's new deal
while we cut loose of him and his 2020 one year deal.

And just as they have in the past, teams restructure others big name-big dollar contract and kick the can down the road to
extend deals of the current. Byron simply did not- does not force turnovers and the better CBs seem to do so, along with terrific coverage.

I really think if the team did not suffer so badly in lack of turnovers, byron would have been re-signed here based off his ability to mimimize the opposing
WR.
