From the past two games, I think we obviously see a team that has “vastly improved” (relatively speaking.) of course we still suck, but I see a lot of areas in which we have done a lot better in, including
- special teams has looked GREAT. The returns have been good. The fake plays have been good. The blocked kicks today have been great. I know many here haven’t been a fan of Bones when it comes to the timing of some of his trick plays, but he’s definitely a keeper.
-defense has vastly improved in almost all areas. Of course our secondary is still terrible, but Diggs has made great strides, and likely will continue to do so going into next season. Once we get him some safety help and another good CB along side him to help, our secondary should vastly improve.
-Gilbert played well considering he was playing against the best defense in the league behind a makeshift line. Of course he wasn’t amazing, but he’s been the best out of all our backups. Keep him in for the Ravens game and see what he’s got. We got nothing to lose.
-Coaching has... improved? I’m not too sure on this one but we’ve made adjustments. Last week, for example, since DiNucci is extremely unskilled, I liked that we tried to put in some trick plays to hide his terribleness, instead of forcing him to do things he’s not good at. Same thing today. McCarthy is actually getting upset on the sidelines. Nolan... dare I say, is actually doing... well? He’s still bad, but he’s improving. That’s what I like to see.
not sure what Jerry and/or Stephen said or did to this team, but something happened to this team before that Philly game. This team is back to looking like they actually care.
So what do you guys say? Where do we go from here? Make Gilbert the backup? Keep the coaching staff into next season? What defensive players would you build off of for next season? What players are you looking into drafting?
