Few thoughts about the Cowboy D today:

-I don't remember seeing any big gains on the ground for the first time all season.
-Gallimore flashed several times early in the game against both the run and the pass
-Randy Gregory is a very talented pass rusher, but very underrated against the run.
-Wilson has a chance to become a long-term piece for this team

Now my rants, cause I can't help myself:

-Jaylon Smith flat out cost us the game with those two killer penalties that extended drives.
-Xavier Woods is the team's worse tackler, every week he misses a tackle that leads to a big play. He also dropped an easy interception.
-When Anthony Brown gets in trouble he get way too handsy, thought he got away with a few def holding plays.

Last two weeks with have seen real progress with the defensive unit. It may just be that a few players disappointing players were let go and a few starters returned to the lineup. This defense over the last two weeks is playing good enough to give this team a chance to succeed.

The team is only playing good because Poe, Griffen, and Worley put them on notice that they are not safe. Not sure if Jerry or Stephen actually said this, but they are playing as if their jobs are on the line now, versus against the WFT and Arizona. We will see in the coming weeks. If this keeps up, we might have a good base on what to draft.

You do know this is a D responsible for 7 losses, yes?

Hate to be negative but the Steelers played 3 straight road games. Two against the physical Tennessee and Ravens defenses. If you were going to beat the Steelers it was today. We got conservative on that drive we kicked the field goal instead of going for it on 4th down.

Why? He was a terrific run defender in college and has been a good run defender in the NFL in the games he has played.

Of the quality outside pass rushers in his draft, he was the best run defender.
Because its been a few years he's played in the league.

We've got some pieces for next year.

Randy is a big deal. Quinn gave us pass rush but bad run defense, Griffen was just bad. Randy gives us a legit all around DE. I expect we extend him next year.

Gallimore being a legitimate all around DT would be big. Hill at least gives some rotation for pass rush.

LVE. Diggs.

We need a lot, but we don't have nothing.

I was impressed until I saw Pitt has the 8th worst offense in the league, one spot above Philthy.

Jaylon is a plague on the defense. We could have a decent rotation going forward with LVE, Lee, and Thomas.

One of the big goals for the rest of the year is keeping Jaylon from getting hurt, and having his injury guarantees kick in the for the rest of the year.

The tide may be turning on Jaylon. The Break was talking about just sitting him. They aren't going to throw a high profile player on the bus like that unless management isn't all in on him.

Even Romo called that one. Had nothing to lose at 2-6. Too many FG's is like the prevent D at end of games.

add a McCoy at dt and this is probably a closer look of what we would have looked after a full offseason AND a few preseason games.

Nolan has even getting a bad rap when things were out of his control.

It would have been nice to see what we had in McCoy, but we have saved some cap and the young guys are getting reps they might not have experienced otherwise.

I wonder if they have a top 5 pick do they just replace Jaylon with Parsons, who many believe has a similar skill set with legitimate instincts for the position.
