We totally were watching a different Byron. I remember Cowboys break and talking Cowboys was openly saying the team should cut Byron after year three. Eyebrows were raised when the Cowboys picked up his 5th year option. Byron had a great year 2018 but so did LVE and Jaylon. Don’t get me wrong Byron is good player and I happy he got paid. But let’s not act like if he was on the team now we would be better then 2-6.
I was a shut down corner, you’d be surprised at how much better a defense is with just 1 shut down corner. For instance, Diggs wouldn't be covering the #1 WR he’d be covering the #2 or #3 WR - which would make him look even better than you claim he is. If they were covering the receivers it would give the Dline more time to rush the QB, etc.. etc.. So in my opinion- the defense would be much better and it was much better with him on the field.

Blame the 3 stooges for that. I think we had the money to sign Byron. He has great character, similar to Dak. This draft has 3 top flight cornerbacks (Surtain Jr., Caleb Farley, and Joe Horne. I don’t think any of them are as athletic as Byron but they certainly have his size and more experience playing cornerback. The irony is that Byron was the classic late first round choice with high upside. The team was successful developing him but decided not to keep him.

Diggs is playing with the worst safety play for the Cowboys in their history. Xavier Woods is horrible. How can he be so bad, leaving so many receivers run free? Good riddance to him. Darien Thompson was terrible. We would have been better off with Jeff Heath. Who thought Haha Clinton Dix was worth signing? Or Poe? Terrible choices.

Diggs will improve over time. He has a brother as star receiver in the league to help him. We need to get some real safeties. Who is the last very good free safety on the team? I am thinking Brock Marion or Roy Williams his rookie year with Darren Woodson. Barry Church was a good strong safety. Jeff Heath was best as a third safety, but is better than any safety on this team right now.

May have allowed as many TDs and big plays in 8 games as Byron, also.

A significant percentage of the big plays allowed by Diggs were really the fault of the Safeties.

When a CB plays outside leverage in man coverage, it means he requires deep inside help from a Safety.
- Multiple times Diggs played outside leverage and there was no Safety help.

I was a fan of Byron Jones as a solid player with good character; however, for a team that has struggled to get turnovers, signing BJ to a 17M per contract was problem not a good idea.

I expect offenses to start targeting BJ more and more because there is not risk of an INT. They might as well take some shots at him with an incompletion being the worst that can happen.

Diggs has as many career picks in 8 games as Byron had in 88. Just in case anyone was wondering if it was wise to let him walk. It was.

Should have paid Byron over either Tank or Jaylon.

Imagine if we had Byron at one corner and Diggs at the other. Imagine what we might look like next season with both of those guys on the team. Why in the world would anybody downplay what either player can do and justify results, based on one not being here? That makes no sense. That's the kind of thought process that leads us to the situation we find ourselves in right now, IMO.
What I find interesting is why the team let Byron walk and kept Crawford. I get that we get a 3rd round comp pick for Byron, but man, the team would be MUCH better with Byron and without Crawford.

Those of you who are downplaying turnovers must be smoking a LOT of crack. Turnovers are game changing plays.

Let’s suppose Byron is playing and gives up zero plays every game for the entire year. That’s fabulous. But if the other team scores on you on every series, it is somewhat of a non factor.

Let’s say Byron alternates between giving up a touchdown and an interception on every series. If the opposing team would have scored anyway, the touchdown he gave up is somewhat irrelevant. In this scenario he kills half of the other team’s drives and gives his team a better opportunity to score.

These examples are extreme to make a point. Turnovers are super important. Those of you who say otherwise know nothing about football.

Diggs has given up MORE TDs this season than Byron has in the last 2 and a half seasons combined.

Letting him walk was moronic.
