The case for going for Lawrence

None.. the offense kept humming along like Dak never left.. Kept scoring 33 points a game.. kept putting up 500 yards a game.. Receivers kept leading the league in yards after catch.. In fact they probably increased their lead because of the more accurate passes hitting them in stride..

Right?

So, you think that yards are the difference, is that it? If the answer is yes, then you can excuse yourself from conversation because that's not what it's about. It's about Ws and Ls.

Right?

No.. not just yards but maybe the 27 additional points we were scoring might be considered. Strange how you managed to miss that. And last time I checked, the more you score the better chance you have to win.. Unless the NFL has somehow morphed into golf.

i am sure Jerry is not passing on Lawrence if we somehow get to the no 1 pick, its pointless to even think about it since we are no getting no 1 pick.

So if that's the case, then it should apply for any of the top picks in this draft. There are legit 4 to 5 QBs in this draft.

Show me the Ls attached to the 27 and perhaps we can discuss that particular opinion but until you do, where's the difference?

They don't give participation trophies or bonus points for managing to score 27 points in the lose, in a game with only two teams.

Bummer right?

Yeah, except you don't know that. I am saying we are not some 4-5 win team right now. We have 2 wins. We are currently on a 4 game losing streak. We are one of the worst teams in the league. So anyone saying it's a less than 1% chance that we have the first pick, I have no freakin' clue what team you folks have been watching.

Steelers often play down to their competition, don't let that fool you into think we were putting up a real fight.
The chances of the Jets winning 2 games is ~10%.

The chances of the Cowboys not winning another game all year ~50%.

So just between the Jets and Cowboys, the chances of the Cowboys having the higher pick are under 5%.

That’s before you consider the Jaguars and other teams.

The chances of the Cowboys getting the #1 pick are literally under 2% if you know how to do the math and go by BPI.

Nothing about hindsight. Were just cheap. Theres 5 starting caliber upgrades to Chido and we wont get one of them I bet. But well get a guy wayyyy down the line. 2021 equivalent to Nolan Carroll and then get another rookie cb that takes a year to develop. Were dumb
"Cheap" has nothing to do with it. We have the same maximum and minimum that must be spent. It's a matter of where they believe the money will do the most good.

Funny, I thought we were watching football. Not quarterback ball.

Gil Brandt @Gil_Brandt

Trevor Lawrence is the best true freshman QB I've ever seen. If I was running an NFL team, I'd be making trades for as many 2021 picks I could get my hands on.

Wasn't this the same guy who said Lamar Jackson should move to wide receiver? And rated Mahomes behind Leonard Fournette coming into the draft? If I was running an NFL team, I'd make sure I didn't listen to Gil Brandt about anything pertaining to QBs.

I think the point is that the QB doesn’t make a difference in the outcomes of games and he wants to be paid like he is.

That’s a recipe to remain just about where we are now as a team.

It’s a team sport right? Tell that to Dak and his agent who think it’s no big deal if he gets all the money.

Yes.. Let’s discredit Gil Brandt as a talent evaluator.

You guys man.. Your standards for evaluating players is not of this world.

and accomplish what? we have to fix this defense to make a run in the playoffs. otherwise, 5 years from now, everyone of these Dak Detractors will be sitting here, b!tching about the same thing, on the contract as they did with Romo and we still at best may become a one and done type of team. Until the philosophy of how we build a team changes, we are not going to win anything of significance
Exactly the reason for this thread. That's not likely to change so we need a workaround.

Not happening.

Cowboys will either take a CB or D-Lineman with their Top-10 pick, or they’ll trade down. That’s it.

Are we up against the cap limit every year?
Do you mean do we spend as much as we possibly can? No, but what if we do, and then our QB goes out for the year, then our backup gets injured, then the backup to the backup sucks, then we need to sign more QBs, and possibly other positions as well? F.U.B.A.R.

We are rapidly reaching that point, yes. We continue to dole out big contracts to individual players and this severely limits our ability to manipulate the cap. It's a real problem for us and it seems to be getting worse.

Look man.. I'm just going to call it what it is.. sometimes it seems like Gil is mired in the 70's and thinks QBs need to be tall and white..

How about this evaluation of Rosen:

I don't have any questions about this young man with regard to the chatter about his character. A good athlete, Rosen has a strong arm and accuracy -- he can make all the throws. By Year 2, he'll be a successful starter in the NFL. I really like this player.

Or of Darnold:

Darnold combines a quick release with very good accuracy and mobility. His 2017 numbers were a step down from 2016, but he was not working with a great receiver corps last season. Darnold has the ability to be a franchise quarterback and a factor in this league for years to come.

I repeat.. This guy's evaluation of QBs carries no more weight than yours..
